Looking at a player's numbers gives you an idea of what they can offer, especially where attackers are concerned. If someone scores 100 goals in two seasons in Italy, is it a moot point because Serie A is a weaker league or nothing compares to the Prem? I have no idea if your POV is one of ignorance, as this seems to be the case far too often. I just want a natural goal scorer (Alvarez isn't one for me). It doesn't get more black or white than that. The best recent example is the Copa America, where Alvarez scored two having started four games, while Martinez scored five having only started one. I'm aware this is a small sample size, but it shows the point I'm trying to make and puts the following to bed - completely different system, with teammates with different characteristics, and playing in a different role. That's a valid reason. However, I don't think they are willing to break it unless it's someone in a similar position to Mbappe's this summer - one of the best around whose contract was up. I personally feel that is Alvarez's best and most effective position, behind a real number 9. People's preferences depend on what they really want, I guess. Osimhen trumps anything obtainable during this window and solves the biggest issues we've had since Costa left. If we're going to talk about wages being too high, we might as well forget any hope of signing Alvarez for the exact same reason.

He has scored 20 goals in 67 EPL games, playing for comfortably the most dominant side in the league. This isn't a dig at him; I just feel we need an out-and-out scorer with the current crop of players. The Firmino comparison is lazy when you consider who was playing on either side of him. Imagine Firmino playing upfront; we'd be reliant on Palmer (based on last season's numbers).
-
Lukaku's departure to Napoli is inevitable, which would have considerably reduced any outlay for Osimhen. Personally, I don't get the narrative around "gambles," given that no player is guaranteed to duplicate their form elsewhere or perform to their full ability. Osimhen would have been a calculated gamble, with Lukaku moving the opposite way. Based on your prior statements, I assume you'd support Alvarez joining for £75 million~; nevertheless, he'd be a bigger gamble, imo.

Profit comes first for them. Roman wanted us to be European & World champs so badly. During the majority of his ownership, he put his money where his mouth was, which is a large reason we were as successful as we were.

Martinez (the United one) was on a video call in the background while Alvarez was sat next to Enzo. It goes to prove that the players on that list are more sensible. A number of players have already unfollowed him, making their feelings known indirectly. How does any "bad blood" magically disappear & not cause friction amongst sections of the squad?
-
I assume you are referring to Partey. If this is the case, then based on where the alleged incident occurred, there either were no charges filed in the first place or they were quickly dropped. Rather than justifying such behaviour, I'm just going off what I know (should be locked up with Greenwood). Enzo was LIVE STREAMING. Can it get any more incriminating than that?
-
The club wouldn't rescind his contract, so we'd get some money back. Do you honestly think the club wants to be painted with the brush of having racist ties to save £20–30 million? As @YorkshireBlue said, no player is bigger than this club.
-
What does his price tag have to do with his actions? If our players and owners have a serious issue with the video, I don't see how an apology will do anything. Have a look at what Mudryk did compared to Enzo.
-
Clubs & organisations within this country try to take a tough stance against all types of discrimination. Have you actually watched an Italian or Spanish top-flight game recently? How others act is totally irrelevant anyway. As the saying goes, "get your house in order." If Boehly & Co. are people of their word, Enzo will either have to face serious punishment or be sold during this window. I'm still lost for words with such responses, which are trying to downplay what's happened. We're in 2024, not 1904.
-
I hate to break it to you, but that's the problem right there. Enzo clearly seems to be having a fun time singing a "harmless 😐" song with his teammates. Any individual has to accept the consequences of their actions and take accountability.
-
Let's not forget that we have a sizeable group of French players who are black as well. This runs deeper than some on this board seem to realise.
-
Shouldn't you do research before using random images, then?
-
It all depends on how stubborn our board is. Will they be more willing to ignore the wage structure (within reason) for a special player?
-
Nothing less than £200k will entice a "top player" to join, particularly in Willliams' case as one of the stars of the Euros.
-
First Mudryk, now him. When will common sense actually become common?
-
He doesn't strike me as that type of person. Playing time is his main priority unlike Money Mase. Ah, okay. I wasn't aware of that. We should stand a great chance of getting him if we actually go all in.
-
I thought they'd have an advantage having done business with them not too long ago (Tel).
-
100%. If Onana is going for that fee, the English tax alone should see CG going for that figure or more.
-
Weren't Liverpool interested in him at one point & Thiago/Matip have both left the club. I wouldn't say anything is a foregone conclusion until the window shuts.
-
Exactly. It's convenient how this "interest" comes about days after he scored. Anything for clicks.
-
Villa have signed Barkley & are on the verge of (overpaying, IMO) for Onana. I can't see them wanting another midfielder.
-
He's on INT duty. I'm sure things will heat up next week.
-
Chiesa is supposedly available for €25m as his contract expires next season & he isn't part of Motta's plans. I'd be all over that if we were able to get rid of someone like Sterling. Basel will receive more money for a player who is no longer theirs than they will for Veiga. No one knows if Veiga will have a similar ascent. One thing is certain: based on his father's recent statement, he does not appear to be lacking in ambition.

They have had discussions to move it multiple times, but FIFA keep doing everything in their power to prevent that from happening - Afcon 2025: Finals set for December 2025 and January 2026 in Morocco - BBC Sport
