As much as I love Buffon (I follow Juve a fair bit) last season he just wasn't as good as usual. It was upsetting to see. I don't think he's world class any more .

Yeah maybe not. But my previous points still stand. I'm not saying he'll play as many minutes but i'm just making it clear that Cech isn't being paid ike 3x that of every other player in our team or even on our bench. You don't need a world class back up keeper no, but it's always nice to have one . Well we'd have to use part of that transfer fee to sign another back up keeper and some of that £5M will go into the new keepers wages. So we'll get some money but not as much as you quoted. Anyway, you might be right, it's up to the club and Petr tbh. -

No offense to Mark but if we want to go for the title he's not good enough to rotate in. Whether it's a waste or not is up for debate, but if Courtois breaks his arm this weekend and we've kept hold of him it'd definitely be worth keeping hold of him. I think h's just being kept as compensation in case Courtois gets injured or suddenly gets shit (unlikely I know). I think with all the good business we've done this transfer window we can manage to cover that. Ideally we want 2 great players in every position. Cech is on like 100k a week as back up? Remy is on 80k a week as backup. Luis is on like 60k a week as back up. Mikel 75k, Schurrle 75k, Willian 80k, Drogba 65k. To have top quality back up players you need to pay good wages. -

And Cech is old enough and experienced enough to be like another coach to Courtois. The £5M or so spent per season (plus the loss on transfer fee) is a different debate tbh. I agree i'm not sure it's worth it but the reason for him staying for our perspective might be for 2 reasons: 1) Don't let Courtois get lazy and think he has the no.1 spot guaranteed even if he plays badly and 2) Courtois is still young and could (unlikely I know but still possible) just drop out of form massively at some point during the season. With Cech there we could rotate him and and take some of the pressure off of the young man to hlep him get his confidence back. We simply couldn't afford to do that if we had Mark Schwarzer as a back up. Well if someone has done that role in a team or job for a long time and I am new to the role yes I would be asking that person for advice on the role and for little tips and tricks to make my life easier/to help me do the job better. They had done the job for a long time before so would know better than me, no matter how good I was at the job. I guess I'd be ok with Cech leaving as long as we signed a decent, experienced back up keeper to replace him (Ruddy or someone like that?) as I don't think the tutoring is a large factor. To pretend it doesn't exist though and is FM faux-logic is just silly. -

You can always carry on learning. As soon as a player thinks they know everything there is to know (Lukaku) then their attitude is wrong. You should never stop wanting to learn and improve, even if it's little things. Courtois is one the best keepers in the world, but so is Petr. I don't know exactly what Petr could teach him as i'm not a professional GK or GK coach, but you can't believe that Tibo is perfect in every way? Maybe he could work on his distribution and Petr has a technique of throwing that he could teach Tibo for a longer throw or a more accurate one. Maybe he could help him with his parrying of the ball and certain ways you could angle your hands to make sure you deflect the ball behind/away from the goal rather than back into the box. Tibo's distribution and parrying could use a bit of work, and Cech might have picked up tricks of the trade during his years playing as a GK that he could teach Tibo. By your logic we shouldn't have coaches; if coaches can teach players new techniques/ideas/moves then why couldn't other players? Who might have learned them from previous coaches or managers. EDIT: As for the major tournament experience; Tibo has 5 games, Cech has 15. You can't count WC games and not Euro games. -

Players can learn from other, more experienced players in real life too you know? Have you never played a team sport with an older person in your squad before? -
Not even kidding that Emenalo is probably a club legend for all of the work he's done. Honestly done more than even Mourinho, and I LOVE Mourinho. Statue needed. Rest of the board have done amazingly too obviously, but it seems that Emenalo has done most of the good work over the last 3 years.

Neuer, Courtois, Cech. Lahm, Alaba, Alba, Kompany, Ramos, T Silva, Hummels & Chiellini. Fabregas, Pirlo, Schweinsteiger, Khedira, Modric, Reus, Arda Turan, Iniesta, Di Maria, Yaya Toure, Silva & Hazard. Ronaldo, King Zlatan, Suarez, Costa, Messi, Neymar, Sanchez, Bale & James Rodriguez.

Remy is £8.5M for a permanent transfer, Falcao is £20M for 1 year. How in any world is that the same price? As well as the price difference the fact that we could sell Remy on possibly for a bit of money makes the deal even cheaper.
-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28385300 <---Liverpool trigger Remy's £8.5M release clause. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28994304 <---Chelsea trigger Remy's £10.5M release clause. The media bias is fucking appalling. It's like when they were saying that Luiz's fee was £40M rather than £50M, and that Fabregas' was £30M rather than £27M. When we sell it's for the lowest fee possible and when we buy it's for the highest fee possible. Jealous shits just because our transfer business is the best out of any club in any sport ever atm.
-
Quick question: Are the people whining about the Remy imminent signing the same ones that said that Diego "4 goals in 3 games" Costa and Cesc "4 assists in 3 games" Fabregas weren't going to be good enough? It would surprise me if they were.
-
Indeed it doesn't guarantee success. No transfer is. It's all a risk. But there are certain ways to reduce the risk - by buying a better player, by buying a player who is suited to the team's style of play or to the manager/other player's personality, or by buying a player who has already played in the same league as your club for the reasons i mentioned in my previous post. How am I meant to supply anecdotal evidence to you? That would involve analysing the transfers of many hundreds of players who transferred in league and between leagues. That would take an inordinate amount of time. My statement is based around the fact that I have been watching the PL all my life and to my eye (and many others) players who sign from other PL clubs are more likely to play better for their new club and have a shorter bedding in time.
-
Many people come to the PL and struggle. It is more likely a player will be a success at a club if he joins from a team in the same league, as he is already accustomed to the style of play, the tempo of play and the teams in the league. It's not cringe-worthy, it's a fact. Saying that what I just said is an idiom is like saying players being able to be in and out of form at any one time is an idiom.

By the sounds of it some people want to spend £50M on Cavani as the 2nd choice striker. Why don't we buy Pogba, Reus and Kompany as back up while we're at it eh?
-
POSITIVITY? YOU DO NOT BELONG HERE.
-
This Torres thread has been well and truly derailed. Think people are a little bit giddy with all of that champagne....
-
Woah. I kinda hope Remy doesn't sign for us now, no-one here seems to want him....
-
I personally think he was just teasing. Maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, back to the key topic at hand eh Boshman....:
-
Ba did a good job for us while he was here as our 3rd choice striker. If nothing else it was worth it for the goals against Liverpool and PSG. Remy will get more game time than Ba. He started 23 games for us and came off the bench 28 times and scored 20 goals. Not a bad return IMO.
-
Don't let them get to you Barb. Water off a ducks back .
-
Think these people saying Remy isn't a great striker need to go back and see how he did at Newcastle last season. 14 goals in 26 games. That's insane. And that is for a club who's midfield consisted of Gutierrez, Sissoko, Tiote, Ben Arfa and Anita in a team finishing 10th. How do you reckon he'll do for us when he's got Hazard, Schurrle, Oscar, Fabregas and Matic behind him?
-
The anticipation is killing me.
-
Not a bad move for him IMO. Wolves have looked really good this season so far, including wins against Fulham, Cardiff and Norwich in the league ALREADY.
