Petr Cech has claimed it was 'Groundhog Day' for Chelsea after watching them suffer another controversial Champions League defeat.

The Blues lost their quarter-final first leg 1-0 against Manchester United last night after being denied what appeared a clear-cut stoppage-time penalty when Patrice Evra chopped down Ramires.

It was the latest decision to go against Chelsea in their long quest to be crowned champions of Europe since Roman Abramovich bought the club almost eight years ago.

Goalkeeper Cech said: "I don't want to speak about it because, every year, it is the same thing.

"We are obviously disappointed because everyone could see the incident.

"The main point is that the person who matters most is the referee and if he doesn't give it, you don't get the penalty and that's what happened."

However, Cech insisted Chelsea had themselves to blame as much as Spanish official Alberto Undiano Mallenco.

"We lost the game 1-0, which is not only because of that - it was because we didn't get a goal anyway throughout the game," he said.

"We created enough to score a goal and that's what made the difference.

"We had plenty of shots on target and we didn't score."

United have never lost a European tie after winning the first leg away and Cech admitted Chelsea faced an uphill task in Tuesday's return at Old Trafford.

"When you are losing 1-0 at half-time in the tie, you can still win it, even though you have to play away," he said.

"Now the result means that we allow them to play the same type of game at Old Trafford.

"They will defend and wait for the counter-attack and wait for their chances.

"That is their main strength and it makes the tie difficult for us.

"We go there and we will have a go.

"We want to do better and win every game - we would like to have a perfect performance all the time but that is very difficult to do.

"We know that everybody gave everything.

"It was not the best of performances but we know we have to go there and perform well to get something out of the game."

Did you see the look on Evra's face when he brought Ramires down? He knew he was screwed, and then couldn't believe his luck. Referee must take an eyesight test if he didn't see that from so close.

Remember Vidic last week being last man and bringing down a player? Remember Vidic last year against Villa in the mickey mouse cup being last man and bringing down a player (milner I think) and only getting a yellow?

Now Fergie or any manc tell me you don't get decisions.

On a positive note I love groundhog day the film.

Petr's telling nothing but the truth, and is stating true facts. Why the hell did they even add the referee behind the goal when they don't see obvious and clear penalties like this.

Picture on TX's post tells you that the ref had a quite clear view as well. That's two, not to mention the assistant. Bloody hell, UEFA is a joke, fucking joke.

He has a point.

There was the ball that didnt cross the line against the Wallpushers. Four clear cut penalties against Barca -(bent ref). Samuel hacking Kalou against Inter which was a definite penalty, and last Wednesdays nailed on spot kick against Ramires.

That said -theres noone can say theres a conspiracy with Terrys penalty taking slip.

Let's not forget about Anders Frisk's half time team talk with Frank Rijkaard.

Add to these even Monaco's first goal at the Bridge which was a clear hand-ball, just before the half-time.

Where does Platini get these useless refs? They probably ref big matches in Europe and fuck back off to the Swis or Danish league lol.

And why do we always end up with them?

Doesnt help that theres extra linesmen who are meant to be an extra pair of eyes or whatever....yet they all miss it as well!

The adverts they show for the extra linesman is cruelly comical. Especially since there not a single shred of evidence they've been useful or even prevented any wrong decision. I bet Collina doesn't even support it, he's just been used as the face because he's perhaps the best referee of all time.

They havent nah thats true. They all missed the Rangers hand ball.Think there was another one in either Europa stages or CL stages they meesed up.Just makes it look like UEFA are doing about the lack of line techo really. They havent helped one single bit.Cant recall a time had they stepped in and changed a decison and if they have not very often really

Well those referees are really useless, how many foul do they have forgot to whistle ? Remember, against Marseille at the Vélodrome, we were also denied to penalties...

Werent that as well the Ref gave us the pen then the linesmen changed his mind..or other way round either way

Yeah, it was on the first penalty action... To be honest, it was the first time I saw such a thing ! Usualy, referees never change their decisions, regardless if they are right or wrong.

It's not the first time, it certainly wont be the last.

But...

Getting a pen against a 'historic' English UCL team isn't impossible for us.

We also got a VERY dodgy panalty at the nou camp in 2006 too. It's not only been bad although our luck has been only bad in the Roman UCL era.
