In decline at the age of 27? The guy has had fitness concerns but are you seriously telling me that he couldn't get himself back to his best?

As for his technical skills, I don't think they're close to being in decline. But we've had this discussion before and I'm going to give you another shot to say something that interests me. If not I think we'll just knock it on the head.

Are you still trying to convince people that Rooney is still a world class player lol?

You clearly haven't seen much of him last season then have you? his passing last season was very hit and miss as was his first touch, the amount of times i saw the ball bounce off him was ridiculous and not something you expect for a supposed top class player!

Not really, because whenever he went through on goal it looked like he had his laces tied together.

and yet he still scored 20+ goals LOOL!

at least Torres isn't sulking like a baby and handing in transfer request because he knows he wont be 1st choice next season!

No, but there are people on here who are capable of making posts that are interesting, provide insight and new ways of looking at thing and don't rely simply on broad generalities and emoticons.

It's nothing personal, I've just not seen anything in your posts that adds a single point to the discussion.

The fact that you were looking for a comeback and not an explanation sums you up.

What is funny is there was a flock of people on the Falcao board and even Cavani bringing this he will be another Torres shit up, yet the most likely transfer to be another Torres is this one, infact im seeing alarming similarities.

Rooney last season reminded me of Torres in 09/10, still scoring but there were some real signs of decline then we get linked with him. To answer TOPTB question can player decline as early as 27? ofcourse infact even earlier, do you remember that blonde whore that's still leaching off our club? we signed him at TWENTY SIX years off age.

If it came down to £53m Cavani or £30m Rooney then the Uraguay wins every time, and don't bring this "well Rooney's PL proven" remember when we signed PL proven Torres over Aguero?

No i think you just cant handle someone having a very different opinion to you, who just comes with the same generic stuff of 'Rooney is a great player, he works so hard' ect

From 64 appearances, all playing up front.

Rooney has 15 from 37, usually playing off the main striker, on the left wing, in midfield. Torres has appeared 27 more times than Rooney and only managed 7 more goals, even though he was playing up front. Rooney's numbers would've been a lot higher had he played as the main striker, and would've been a lot higher had he played in 64 games.

It's not even comparable. I know you don't rate Rooney but when you're using Torres stats to prove a point the value of your argument takes a big, big hit.

I'm not really sure which side of the fence to sit on with regards to Rooney.

I don't agree with those that don't rate him because over the last decade he has consistently proven himself to be one of the best and most feared strikers playing in the Premier League. I know personally that I've never enjoyed playing United with Rooney in their starting line up.

However it cannot be ignored that his form wasn't great this season. There are plenty of arguments and excuses that can be made for this season, but I agree with Tomo that signing a player who is currently in a poor moment in their career represents a major risk. We first hand know how severe those risks are from Torres, and my biggest worry would be a similar scenario to that...Rooney coming in for big money and wages, massive expectation, and never fulfilling it or getting back to the striker he was a couple of years ago.

However there is no doubt that a deal for Rooney, if possible, would be tempting, particularly as if he can get himself back to what he was a couple of years ago, then we have a £30m+ player in what should be the prime years of his career. Not to mention the price differential being quoted in the media between him and Cavani. Yes it would be lovely to sign Cavani, a player who clearly is in the best form of his career, but the price is massive. With some of the media stories, we could theoretically sign Rooney, Sneijder and De Rossi for the same or perhaps even less money than Cavani and our summer business would be all but done.

I will be intrigued to see how Mourinho views it over the course of the summer.

Won't join us or any other English clubs as the matter of fact. MU is not Arsenal, they don't sell top class players directly to rivals even if the player requested a move there. Top class player though, can fit in our striker role seamlessly and already got used to BPL but unlikely to happen. Imo we need to go all out for Cavani now, ignore Rooney/Gomez/Lewan or whatever.

why are telling me about Torres and Rooney as if i dont already know about them??? I wasn't the person who bought up Torres and wasn't using him at all to prove a point regarding his and Rooneys footballing ability!
