Indeed, but you can guarantee Bayern will be sniffing about if BVB ever think of a sale, what with Mats being a Bayern youth product.

Max. I know you follow BVB so can I ask, why are they such a selling club? In the same season they won the Bundesliga, they sold one of their stars Nuri Sahin. Now they look like Subotic, Hummels & Gotze will leave. Is it a case of those stars not seeing enough ambition at BVB or are their books not in ordrer?

I wouldn't call BVB a selling club at all. Their only problem is that like every other German team, they're perennially in Bayern's shadow. They had some major problems with their finances were on the verge of liquidation around the mid 2000s but improved management thereafter means they're doing much much better now.

Why they lose - or look likely to lose their better players is imo quite simply because they're not the biggest club in Germany, i.e they're not Bayern Munich. Sahin left because he of Madrid's interest. Who wouldn't want to play for Real? It'll be the same when it comes to Grosskreutz or Sven Bender or Hummels or Subotic or Gotze.

They have had great debt so they have to make money by selling players but it is getting better for them! The championsleague helped them too! That is why they could buy reus.

But their history shows that they have always had good teams but could not manage to deal with the fame and money!

  • 1 year later...

I would love this player here, with Terry's retirement, this would be the perfect replacement to pair with Luiz!

Subotic is solid at defending, is tall and very strong. He rarely position himself bad and usually can steal the ball from forwards without falling to the ground. Above all he is still 24 yo, so it would fit our new age policy. He also knows how to speak English because of his youth time at Florida.

His contract ends in 2014, so this year would be a good transfer window to make a move...

Didn't know his contract ended next year, thought he was on long term (meaning we would have to pay through the nose for him).

Sign him up, £12m should do it.

Yeah, but he loves BVB, so I wouldn't feel so confident. I think something like 15-20 mi could do though...

So did Gotze, unless he sign's a new contract we would be a good position to get this guy at a relative low price.

We can't let this opportunity slide, surely?

True, I just hope he ends up here if he indeed moves away from Dortmund. Would be a shame letting this opportunity pass!

Subotic + Luiz would be one hell of a pair and they would be around for quite some time!

But it might ruin Bruma development :(

hummels would be my first choice but subotic is also great and more realistic. I feel kinda bad for Dortmund, looking like they will lose some key players. But honestly I would take half of their team if I could, Reus, Lewandowski, Hummels, Gundogan, subotic, all quality.

If it was JT approaching his prime and Luiz in his twilight years then Hummels would be my preferred choice out of the two, but Hummels and Luiz (imo) will be an accident waiting to happen playing together. Where as Subotic should be able to pick up (with Luiz) where he left off with the German.

Believe me, there are some people with that kind of mentality!

One of my Chelsea supporting friends is one of them, didn't want us to sign Oscar because it would reduce Marin's game time

Actually Subotic has times when tends to lose his marker. Fast pace strikers are his weakness. I remeber that against Esswein he was outran and it only helped him that Piszczek was behind him to cover up. Even though, Subotic is a wonderful player, but I don't believe he will leave Borussia. At least not now. We could pull in a cheeky bid, but I do believe using a youth, (if Terry is going to follow in Lamps and Drogs footsteps) like Ake, Omeruo or Kalas to be a 4th - 5th choice CB , would be smarter.
