Newcastle sack Hughton

Newcastle United have sensationally sacked manager Chris Hughton, just over a year after he was first appointed the club's manager on a permanent basis.

Hughton guided the club back to the Premier League at the first time of asking last season, but his position came under scrutiny after the club opted to put talks on a new deal on the back burner.

Shortly afterwards, Hughton led the Magpies to a stunning win over north-east rivals Sunderland - a victory that appeared to strengthen his hand.

A statement on Newcastle's official website said: "Newcastle United Football Club have today parted company with manager Chris Hughton. Goalkeeping coach Paul Barron also leaves the club today.

"The board would like to place on record their thanks to Chris for his considerable efforts during the club's transition from Championship to Premier League football. Chris has shown exceptional character and commitment since being appointed manager in October 2009. The club wishes him well for the future.

"Regrettably the board now feels that an individual with more managerial experience is needed to take the club forward. The task of appointing a new manager now begins. An announcement will be made shortly regarding transitional arrangements pending the appointment of a successor."

Martin O'Neill has emerged as an early favourite to replace Hughton, while Norwich boss Paul Lambert, former West Ham manager Alan Pardew and Slaven Bilic are also being tipped to be contenders.

why is Bilic always rumoured to be line of contention everytime there is a vacant role at a Premier League club?

I think Mike Ashley just used him to get Newcastle's credibility to a point where he is out in the shadows, and was just waiting for a point in time to get rid of him while they were in the PL to hire someone who would be a big name. A decent manager imo, and i can't see why he has been sacked especially after nicking a point against us.

Great coach. Really have a lot of time for Chris Hughton, he's humble and has a wonderful state of humility. Great person and a really likeable character in English football. He's drawn with CHELSEA and beaten ARSENAL in recent weeks, and beat Newcastle's arch-rivals Sunderland 5-. He deserved that contract!

all of them managers lined up to take over are a good choice, i think.

but i don´t get it - why didn´t they gave hughton the new contract ? he was getting good results with the barcodes, really formed a good team there.

Well I asked my Newcastle supporting friend, he replied simply

Mike Ashley's a cunt.
