It will open everyones eyes and make footballers realise it's not all about money. If a player can be offers a contract now and not receive bonuses etc, we know their interest in the club. Joe Cole was a good example, his true colors really came through!
We Hate Scouse 10,326
£20 million for Ramires + £28 million bid for Neymar. Big spending days are over? Not at all. They even say it in the bloody link as well!"To say that they days of big spending are over is a little bit misguided - they did try and sign Torres is the summer for 40 million pounds." Wilson 358
I agree they are not over but cut back.
zolayes 14,489
i think a better headline would have been "Days of Extravagant Spending Over"
Wilson 358
Only put that cause that's what the headline was that I seen.

LDN Blue 7,903
Yeah I think the signings that are like near £20million aren't counted as "big spending"
BlueLion. 21,491
It's still big though.Agreed, but I didn't explain myself very well. I was trying to say that the term 'big spending' now relates to £30 million and above signings, like Ronaldo and Kaka, etc.
Luke 60
I think we are now showing that you need to be a TEAM to win trophies. Man City and Real Madrid spend stupid sums of money on individuals, but its the TEAM that laughs last.
BlueLion. 21,491
Spot on. And even though we've let a lot of players go, I can't see any squad in our league that has a great strength in depth than us.

Aesthetic Relic 301
We had to spend big to get to the position we're in. Now that we're there, we dont need to go out singing left right and centre. We have a very solid squad and as long as we continue to tweek it every now and then, there's no reason why we cant compete for the title for the forseeable future. If a top player does become available and he'll be an asset to the squad, I dont see why we wouldnt shell out for him....ie...Torres. Drogba and Anelka will have to be replaced in time, so I wouldnt be surpried if we did try for a "marquee" striker over the next few seasons. Didnt particulary want Benyaoun but he might be right tweak we neededSturridge looks like he'll keep improving and be a big player for us in the years ahead. I'm expecting big things from him.As for Yossi, the main reason CA went for him is that he's a disciplined player and will do a job for the team. He may not be a flare player, but he will give stability to the team. Its a team game afterall and not about individuals, which Man City will find out this weekend
Badboy 1,526
I agree i would question if neymar would do any better than what sturridge is doing ? every time danny starts he scores also he has anelka like movement !
Kostas 1,468
KakaDaniel AlvesRobinhoAgueroTorresNeymarAllegedly we went for some of them and it means that we were willing to break the bank.In most of those cases it was either the player that wanted to move elsewhere or the selling club playing hardball. Not really arguing against the fact that we're trying to break even but I never believed that Roman Abramovich got somehow bored or unwilling to spend, the opposition fans would love that to be true but it's just a load of ballacks. We can and will spend (very) big if our football board along with our coach decides that the investment is worth it. EskWeston 696
Previously we had to rebuild our entire squad, now we have a very strong squad and only small changes need to be made. Even less so as we are trying to use our own young talent to suppliment the squad. So yes, we will never see the spending that we made some years ago and that is a good thing, it shows we have a settled and able squad that we can add to slowly and with more consideration.
