Carlo to sign new contract?

Carlo Ancelotti is set to be offered a new deal that will keep him at Chelsea until 2014.

The Italian boss, 51, led the Blues to a historic Premier League and FA Cup double last season – and has made a huge impression on billionaire owner Roman Abramovich.

Ancelotti signed a three year deal worth £3million a-year, when he arrived at Stamford Bridge from AC Milan.

That will be extended by at least another two if talks go well with Abramovich.

The Russian has been delighted with the developing style and panache of his team under Ancelotti.

Last season Chelsea scored a record 103 goals when winning the title.

They go into today’s clash with Blackpool with a 100 per cent record and a four goals-a-game average.

It’s the style of football that was the Abramovich blueprint for Ancelotti.

And the boss has achieved the progress with only one major signing this summer – that of £20m Brazilian midfielder Ramires.

Ancelotti also showed that he can play hard ball in the transfer market.

That was illustrated in the close season when Ashley Cole was on the wish list of new Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, but Ancelotti insisted from day one: “Cole’s going nowhere.”

And the England star duly stayed.

I wonder how a new contract right now would affect the team chemistry, would it be good for Carlo to feel too comfortable with city, aston villa & arsenal coming up.

Carlo is the perfect manager for this club, but it would make more sense to reward him with a new contract at the end of the season.

Interesting point, but a new contract works the other way too, players know that there is no speculation about there managers future, they know exactly where he is; staying put, and realise that they have Carlo for another 4 years to work with, and continue the successful run :)blue%20scalf.gif

i really dont think it would affect the team chemistry. carlo is a winner and wants to win no matter what. i dont think it would matter if he had assurance that he was going to keep his job. i actually think if it did anything it would help us because the players can feel continuity in manager leadership. which is something that has been lacking in recent years.

i dont see how it can hurt us

Agree with TX here, contract should be awarded at the end of the season rather then now. But Carlo's smart enough to not let such things distract his planning, he's already told the media of him commitment to Chelsea so it's all good :D

This season is going to be hard for Ancelotti because people know about him and how we play. It'll be interesting to see if his level of support and admiration from the fans changes if we don't win anything.

It was really interesting.

Well, I hate to say I told you so

Even so... KING CARLO! A wonderful manager and person, forever etched into our club's history. Grazie!
