Lmao brilliant!

Lagaan (maybe you know the movie) is gonna be one of the topics of my English exam. Is it any watchable?

Yes, it is pretty good. A tad bit long as the director is quite famous for, but pretty good movie to watch. Also was our official entry to Oscars and made it to the official nominations too. The lead actor is Aamir Khan who is a big star here and is notoriously famous of being very picky regarding his films. He usually does one single movie every year.

Is there much dancing?

Ofcourse, what do you expect from bollywood? :D But movie is not at all idiotic as the clip Strike posted!!

No, no guy running with a lamp post but if you are interested in those kind of funny flicks, let me know, i will PM the whole list of them. :D

Usually the hindi films are a longer than the western one's but this one is too long. Also do you understand the sport of cricket? Just look it up if you don't, will be helpful when you see the movie!

German film industry is by far the best in the world!

Naaaah, definitely not. For every "The Baader Meinhof Complex" there's about 2093121939123 really bad movies.

Oh thanks. I may take you up on that later lol

I don't have aynthing against long movies as long as they're good. I don't have a clue about Cricket. It's not popular at all here. My teacher told me too that could help. Might give that film a chance.

Lagaan is good. Nominated and ran to the final two in Oscar Foreign film category. My favorite film growing up...But it's based on cricket and british oppression

edit: Everyone here expected Lagaan to win the Oscar but when it lost, many pointed to the length of the film as a possible reason. it's over 3 hours

The only indian movie I have watched is this one: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1187043/

I found it really funny and inspiring, despite having too many musical scenes for my liking. Aamir Khan is in its cast, I didn't know he was a big star :D

I watched a news piece on the film industry in India the other day. They said it is the most prolific and rapidly developing film industry in the world. I was amazed at how inexpensive cinema prices are!

Yes, the industry here is massive and they fact we are so densely populated may be the reason behind it's rapid growth! As i have said before, India is changing and at pace. We are the one of the most rapidly growing economies in the world and that shows in most of the fields which includes Sports and Bollywood.

Regarding prices, it was very reasonable when i was a kid. After the multiplexes came along, the prices have been going up but in some small cities where there are still single screen theaters , the prices are still very good for people to go and enjoy the movies.

It is nice to hear it is affordable, movie prices on. The US cinema prices are very high and raise every year. It makes it hard to take a family to see a movie, unless it is at a theater that runs movies that are not first run theaters.

Yes, every film industry has way more shit movies compared to good one, but German industry has a greater percentage of good quality films than anyother country!

Also, even their shit movies are great story tellers (in general)...

Aamir Khan is one of the more serious actors. He doesn't have the same cult following that some of the "parody" actors do but his films are often critically appreciated. 2-3 of them were nominated for the Oscars

The plan to make a commercially successful bollywood movie is simple - Muscular hero, Beautiful lady, Evil father, Karate-fight scenes, Song and dance, happily ever after...

That was a laughable world cup and you know it.

Why? Because Australia did not win?

And you Aussies can't even play the 4-0 card anymore. Australia's glory period is over mate. Too bad they didn't get to host a WC under Waugh or Punter
