Need some advice guys. I want to buy a book for a friend. She's 15 and like my little sister but she's not a fan of reading, not that she ever tried it, but instead watches Arabic dramas all day which are as damaging to watches IQs as European and American reality shows. So I want to get her a book that would get her to like reading. I thought about Dickens, who is the reason I love reading so much, but her English is good, but not excellent. Any suggestions guys?

Harry potter got me interested in reading as a child, she's a bit older than i was but they really are cracking books especially if you haven't seen the films.

Anything except 50 shades of grey.

Tbh I don't really know, if only she was a few years younger and it would have been easier to get her a book, like the magic key books (i think they were for like 7-11 year olds though but they were awesome years ago haha :P Does she like any actors/actresses/sports stars/pop stars or that? Could look for a autobiography of the certain person she admires...

Secret Seven? Girls I know used to read a lot of Enid Blyton around that age. That, and Nancy Drew.

Hmm. I think it depends on what genre she would like. Fiction? Fantastical or realistic fiction, crime and so on. Also, could you not buy a book translated into Arabic?

Just a a book with good, likable story. Preferably nothing too fiction. Just to prove that the "stories" she watches on tv are mainly shit.

I, personally, hate reading in Arabic. It is so much more difficult because Arabic is a very old and complicated language. The written Arabic is no longer used in conversations. Besides, every Arabic writer in history is an arrogant cunt :P

Babysiitters club

Nah I actually don't know, just my sis use to read them. That's a hard person to buy a book for. You either love reading or you don't. Maybe buy her a good, well written tv series that not just full of bullshit. 'The Wire' or 'Breaking Bad' are examples but don't have to be those tv shows.

That's actually a good idea. I was thinking about getting her something a bit more "girly" like Eat, Pray, Love..

Harry potter got me interested in reading as a child, she's a bit older than i was but they really are cracking books especially if you haven't seen the films.

For some reason Dave, I always thought you were much older  I'm a "Potterhead" myself, read the whole series 6 times! I'm pretty sure she hasn't watched the movies, and the level of English is perfect for her.

Think I'm gonna get either this or Eat, Pray Love. Never read the latter (thought it was too girly) anyone got an idea of the level of English used in it?

I see. :) I think a good book for her to read would be 'Norwegian Wood' by Haruki Murakami. There are many different translations of it (originally written in Japanese) and the English translation is perfect and flows very well. It's a fictional story but it's very down-to-earth and its impossible not to become engrossed in. Here's a link if you want to know a bit about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwegian_Wood_%28novel%29

The only reason for not reading it would be it might not be the best book to start reading with. But if she gets to like reading a lot then it would be perfect. :)

Get her a Frank Lampard one ;) Haha.

I don't really know, the only books I've read by choice are ones about football, football tactics and its history really.

Oh in fact look for a series of unfortunate events, read all 13 or 15 books a few years back. There quite good, weird and interesting at the same time. Story makes no sense some of the time but its interesting, also a bit dark with all the killings etc.

I used to love reading when I was 11-14 y/o, read all the Harry Potters and series of unfortunate events. Also read a whole load of autobiographies...

Anyway one another note what the fuck is this music video all about, crazy bastarding ducks pecking cunts in the pecker because they were shouting at them and stole a grannys purse.... beware ducks are taking over, worlds gonna flood and they will rule in 2033

We Hate Scouse see your signature. Is the "You can come, Jake. But as a friend." thing Spike was on about that girl who he was flirting with for a while, you mean, mean muthafucka.

Anyway why didn't we get Cap back for Xmas :cry::cry::Goober:

HOW THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW MY NAME IS JAKE?

IS IT BECAUSE IT SAYS "I COME AS A FRIEND" UNDER MY USERNAME?

Yes, yes it is! :D

Serves him right for punching above his weight.

De Gea needs a nice Spaniard not Hitler youth.

Caps memory lives on. Gone but never forgotton. His story will one day become a myth of the web. The legend of el caprio

She was Spanish...Spanish and German. She even has that two last name thing.

She seems to be a proper bitch anyway, I was just suckered in with the physical attraction. Who says yes to a date and then says no on the day of the date because they have a boyfriend?

I know everything, the tea leafs and the scotch tells me so. Na, you told me about being friend zoned and your thing gave it away a bit as did WHS' signature too. I am like Cluedo, put the bits together and came to the conclusion your name is Jake.

It's the meanest thing anyone has ever said to me. I would much rather hear "Fuck off, I don't like you" than that.

There are less violent things I'd like to do to her. Like hold her hand for instance. Fucking saucey.

These are the exact thoughts she wants you having in your head. She's taken control of you Spike. Wrapped you round her little finger. What happened to the Spike I once knew who didn't give a flying fuck about anything or anyone?

No clue, really. Wouldn't imagine it would be of a very high level.

Yeah, I read a few when I was young. The language is very simple, but I'm not sure if a 15 year old would like the stories? I read them when I was 7-10, so not sure about that! but if she's not been reading at all then definitely give it a go!

He burnt out. A change of pace is all he needs. Something new, university should be the catharsis.
