Steve 10,227
A week of international fixtures was not enough to keep Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou away from Cobham on Monday. Ivory Coast used Chelsea's training ground to prepare for a match in London. The Ivorians warm-up for the World Cup by taking on South Korea at QPR's Loftus Road on Wednesday afternoon, one of several friendly fixtures that day featuring Chelsea players. There is a rematch of the 1986 and 1990 World Cup Finals when Germany, with Michael Ballack in their squad, host Argentina. England are at home to Egypt with John Terry and Frank Lampard our players selected by Fabio Capello. There are also Chelsea names in the France party taking on European champions Spain at home. They are Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda. Portugal are home to China with Ricardo Carvalho, Paulo Ferreira and Hilario in their squad and Branislav Ivanovic has travelled to Algeria with Serbia. Miroslav Stoch will be hoping for another Slovakian cap at home against Norway. There are competitive matches on Wednesday at Under 21 international level. Daniel Sturridge, Michael Mancienne, Jack Cork and Ryan Bertrand are all in the England party for a very important fixture at home to Greece who lead them by two points in their Euro Championship qualification group having played a game more. Netherlands Under 21s with JeffreyBruma a fixture in their defence are flying in qualification. They take on Poland at home. Italy U21s with Fabio Borini in the squad still have plenty to do as they face Hungary at home. Republic of Ireland U21s are struggling but are blooding the next generation including 18-year-old Conor Clifford who will be hoping for action at home to Armenia. Nemanja Matic's Serbia U21s play a friendly away in Macedonia. The Under 21 friendlies begin tonight (Tuesday) with Gokhan Tore in the Turkey squad hosting Slovakia. At Under 19 level Gael Kakuta is likely to play in a double header against Ukraine on Tuesday and Thursday. Jacob Mellis is away in Holland on Tuesday with England Under 19s. Sweden Under 17s, for whom Marko Mitrovic might feature, play on Tuesday and Thursday against Switzerland. Chelsea FCWe have a fair few players out playing for there countries. We really need to get everyone back fit. The last thing we need at the moment is more players injured.
BlueLion. 21,491
Lampard will come back with a missing leg, Drogba will fracture his collar-bone, Anelka will be out for the season and Mikel will get poleaxed and be forced to retire.Just our luck? boshman 1,073
What are the point of these friendlies? If its just before a couple of qualifiers then i can understand but in the middle of the most important time of the season. Hopefully our boys come back safe.
