Idiot 71
I think its absolutely disgusting the way this club has treated Di Mateo. It's quite necessary to take time for such an important decission. Last time chelsea appointed an short term successfull manager they failed so its goog to think twice if RdM is able to bring the success on the long term... The Skipper 20,609
I think its absolutely disgusting the way this club has treated Di Mateo. The worst kept secret in football is they tried to get Pep in and they failed (Bastards) and they thought '' We might as well keep the European champion''. Pep will come out at about January time and he'll tell the world the desperate attempts of the Chelsea hierarchy to to get him and the horrible failure and it will derail our season. You know why they only gave him a 2 year contract ? Its because they believe he flooked it and they are trying to cover their bets. He won the European cup and he stabilized our team and he only got a 2 year deal.Yeah, that's if you believe everything the media says. Stop reading too much into it, honestly. I hate it when people use every opportunity to take a pot shot at the club. That's what's disgusting.
Badboy 1,526
I suggest you reserved your judgement till we hear from the club.Cause it was the same BS last summer, about all these managers when the truth was we never talked to Hiddink, and AVB was our only target.I know when its bullshit and when its true because I know the patterns of the club when it comes down to these issues. No i do not have a crystal ball so don't waste your time being sarcastic but usually they bring out a statement killing all the speculation but they never because they clearly wanted Pep. This was the reason why Di Matteo only got a 2 year contract, they will give Di Matteo this season then they'll bring Pep in that's my opinion anyway ! Fair enough if that's your opinion, but you don't have to call the club "disgusting" because of something you think might happen.

I feel that Pep has told them that he'll be ready next summer and for the club to start transition into possession style football. The thing is its very rare for a successful manager to get only a 2 year deal after bringing that much success, AVB even got a 4 year deal and it just shows that they don't really have full confidence in RDM so they've given him a token season. If they really believed that RDM was the man to reform our style then they would of backed him fully with a 4 year deal and full reign over the club. Rumours are that Bayern is his preferred destination.

AVB got only a 3-year deal, just like any of our previous managers.Regarding RDM getting only a 2-year deal, I'm not sure if one should read so much into the length of contract he is getting. The club could have just finally realized that giving managers a 3-year deal is suicidal knowing well they might sack him months or after just 1 year into his contract and paying a hefty compensation as a result of it. CHOULO19 24,332
^^Exactly. When has the length of the manager's contract ever affected the club's decision to sack or keep him?
EskWeston 696
I think it was perfectly sensible by the club to give RDM a 2 year deal. Yes he won the FA Cup and CL, but there is a hell of a lot to do in the PL and RDM still has to prove he can compete over a season. If he has a good season this season and shows he can handle it again then i am sure he will be offered a new job at the end of the season. Again i think this is a very sensible approach by the club. That being said, if RdM was always first choice, why not offer it him the morning after Munich?

Sheva. 5,373
if RdM was always first choice, why not offer it him the morning after Munich?Thing is you can't just jump into decisions like that, thorough analysis of his performance needs to be done. And also evaluation of other candidates.
Superblue 6,372
Thing is you can't just jump into decisions like that, thorough analysis of his performance needs to be done. And also evaluation of other candidates. We're never likely to know. The board could have said to Robbie to go and enjoy a holiday and they'll sort out the contract when he gets back. Sure enough as soon as he was back from a holiday the appointment was confirmed. I'm sure I saw something somewhere that Hazard had spoken to Robbie about his role in the team and this was before Robbie was confirmed. It is also a little weird that if Robbie wasn't fully confident in landing the Chelsea job, then why didn't he hold talks with any of the clubs who needed a manager during that end of season window - Liverpool, Villa, Lazio, etc. Are you telling me after what he achieved with us that none of the mentioned wouldn't be interested in him?! Justin_3d 1,140
Benitez achieved something great, and Liverpool got blinded into that.I am glad that the club is not easily falling into that. One year contract would have been the best, but can't complain with a 2 either.RDM must now show that what he did the last few months was not a one trick pony. Ollie 4,400
A 2 year deal basically means if next year is shit, i'll give you another year to put it right. If both years are shit, you can leave without me paying you a penny in compensation. We've paid off way too many managers recently it's embarrassing. AVB was the worst tho, paid to come, paid to leave. 2 years is perfect for any manager but i think every manager should get the 2 years without being sacked mid way through. Can't keep throwing money away.Anyway.... Happy Eddie & Robbie are staying. Would love to win the prem with them.

Don't see the reason of ditching Eddie after the part he played in our success last season and the fact that he was brought in by RDM himself as well.
