Transport is a gripe for me. I don't drive (not because I don't want to, I just wouldn't feel confident behind the wheel) and so have to rely on either lifts or more likely public transport. I live in a village in Surrey and the first bus of the day is at 6 am, but the last bus is at 6.45 in the evening. I work up in London and if I want to stay out late (like I have for some recent Chelsea matches) I have to rely either on my family coming to pick me up or I get a taxi from my local station to where I live. It's utterly ridiculous running a bus service which finishes at such a stupid time.

What are these out of interest?

Obviously from this thread you can tell the NHS are far from perfect. But free healthcare has gotta be fairer than a system where the poor die because they can't afford treatment. And if you are rich, you can still get private healthcare if you want it in the UK.

Wow, you really don't think much of me do you Elliott?? I find it interesting you attacked me when all I stated was an opinion, much like everyone else had about health care... the only difference is I'm an American and don't yet have to deal with NHS.

Do you really believe all that the US news says about our health care? Tell me you're more astute than that, because our news is notorious for making a mountain out of an ant hill. Are there those who are at risk or can't get health care? Yes but it isn't true there is no way for them to get health care and that the uninsured are always turned away from hospitals, far from it. That is why those of us with health insurance and that can pay for our medical care pay through the nose. I don't believe that the US needs to have a health care system that is forced on all of us. What we need is a safety net for those who are uninsured or under insured that is a national system and that all health care facilities are required to accept.

I am not rich nor am I poor, but the National Healtcare plan the US is looking at would drastically alter the health care that I am able to access and NOT for the good. So, am I to be penalized because both my husband and I are employed and our employers provide decent health care because someone who is unemployed can have health care or some company choose not to provide for their employees? I believe everyone should have health care but I believe there has to be a better solution then putting everyone on the exact same insurance and taking away services from those of us who have good insurance and work hard to have it.

The scuttlebutt I hear from my friends in the medical field is that there will be a decline in the number of doctors in specialties, the time it takes to get much needed tests and treatments will be increased, and it will take longer to get appointments with any physician, let alone specialists. The other thing that will happen is an increase in red tape... how many hoops will you have to go through to get the treatment your doctor thinks you need? How many opinions will you need to get a potentially life saving treatment? (The US gov't loves red tape!)

I'm not saying everyones national health care is horrible but the US government has already made a muck of our "dole" and our social security. How can you have confidence in a government that has already proven that they can't run the national systems they have in place???

Personally, one thing that really grinds my gears is arrogant and ignorant people, there is no need for it.

Also, socks and sandles is a good shout lol.

As well as people that wear sunglasses either when its not sunny, or they're indoors, I mean, WTF lol.

And dont even get me started on students... comb your bloody hair once in a while, and dress properly! Jeeez!!

"So, am I to be penalized because both my husband and I are employed andour employers provide decent health care because someone who isunemployed can have health care or some company choose not to providefor their employees?"

Yes because thats what decent and civilised societies do - look after their own who can't look after themselves. Is it their fault they are unemployed? Does their cancer go untreated because they cant find a job or work for an employer that doesn't look after them?

And for the Brits who complain about waiting for essentially free specialist services? Get a taxi to a private hospital and leave the NHS for us who are grateful for it and its staff

I choose to pay for private health care £80 a month it costs me and i only earn 18k a year, why ? i had an extremly bad experience with the NHS that has fucked me up for life 5 ops later and there is nothing more that can be done till im 50.. yes i did try to sue but convieniently they lost all the paper work when i discharged myself so couldnt prove anything just my word against there's.

My nan a year before at the same hospital got amazing care and i couldnt fault them or thank them enough. The nhs is there for people who need it and is a lifesaver to a lot of the country.
