Manuf 1,448
totally agreed and we have to many in Congress to get that corrected. Here it's legal to carry concealed weapons as long as you have a permit. It is also legal to shoot someone on your property and ask questions second! I have my permit but never filed it or bought a gun. the only reason I have it is that I was interviewing with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for their ballistics and firearms identifications position and thought I should at least have fired a weapon!! I turned down the job because it required 2 years in a city 3 hours from where we live and we couldn't pick up and move (my husband's job is much better than mine and we had 2 small children at the time).Shooting someone on your property and being able to carry a gun are 2 of the most stupid laws in US. They should change it because too many people die everyday. People feel too confident and they overreact too often.
BluesChick 1,260
Shooting someone on your property and being able to carry a gun are 2 of the most stupid laws in US. People feel too confident and they overreact too often.Well, they are laws in Tennessee and some of the other southern states, but aren't "US" National laws. In the US each state determines certain laws themselves, concealed weapons and the one about shooting someone on your property are two examples. States rights are one of the quirkier things in the US government/law and a contentious one! Like driver's licenses which are state issued instead of being issued by the US Government. There are different regulations for it in each state and some states had to really tighten up their policies after 9/11. There are other odd ones called blue laws that forbid the sale of alcoholic beverages on Sunday (varies state to state) and each state has their own liquor board that determines where beer, wine and "spirits" can be sold (some states you can buy all 3 in a grocery store and in others you have to go to a beer store for beer, a wine store for wine, and a liquor store for the rest! LOL) Oh and wearing helmets when on a motorcycle or scooter, some states don't require it at all, one state just says you have to have something on your head, and others require helmets at all times. So, it is not enough to know US laws, you have to know the laws for the state you live in!! I've lived in 10 of the 50 states and every move there is always a quirky law or just plain stupid one.
Badboy 1,526
Senseless violence, my department head's cousin was killed in a parking lot because he got angry over someone being parked to close to his vehicle and the other guy had a gun! The shooting happened in front of his 3 children!! Those poor kids!! The trial is happening right now and they convicted the guy who shot him but it's still so senseless. That's America for you ! America is fantastic economically, but many American's have a very low regard for human life, not surprising really when you think about it america was found on crime. The mass murder of the indian's was one of the worst crimes in human history.

I think you should study a little more American history and political science before you go swiping the whole country with such large brush strokes. The entire country was not founded as penal colonies.... Nor does the whole entire nation have a low regard for human life... I personal think you owe me an apology for that one.Yes the mass murder of the Native Americans (which we prefer to be called by the way! Yes, I am part Native American, my great grandmother was Chippewa) was horrible and yes, I do know that, but it is not the only atrocity in this world and the Americans are not the only ones to commit them! Anytime you want to the US, I'll show you around and show you what we're really like and you can teach me about Poland!! My husband has been to Poland several times on business and has enjoyed it, except that it has been December and cold!! He says that everyone is very friendly and welcoming. Maybe it's good that your husband was here in winter because right now I feel like I was in Africa. Temperatures are above 40 (104 °F) and sometimes even 50 °C (122°F) . I can't stand it any longer. We've come a long way since independence in 1947, but the main problem is that the development is uneven and unequal. Some of the rural areas are in a very bad state, but if you walk the streets of some of the big cities, you'll find it difficult to believe you're in the same country. The one good thing about Indians as a people though, and it's some thing I'm hugely proud of, is that wherever you go, you'll see a smile on every face, even on those of the poorest. Which is why we have a pool in the back yard!! but on the other hand my low temperature is 0 degrees (32°F) but only for a week or two a year! spring comes in March and fall comes in late October!! Having lived farther north I can say I don't miss the cold but the long hot summer is hard too!!To my two Indian friends above: I realize India is a fascinating place and full of industry and technology! I'd love to see it some day! Of course, two sets of my neighbors have been from India originally and I had friend from India in college, so that helped dispel and lapses in judgement I had early on!! Perhaps we should learn from one another instead of judging each others home nations so harshly on preconceived notions? just a thought

Good call, BC. In fact, that's why I like being here on this forum. The people are nice and friendly and usually no one behaves like a troll who likes to kick up a storm over deluded notions and hearsay. Good place, this. Makes me even more proud to be a Chelsea fan! Yep very true, I visited 2 years ago, went to Mumbai and Kerala, you can never fault the people. They're so kind, no matter if they're poor or economically okay, they're always helping, starting conversations or just smiling. But to see the the poor living on the street just down the road is heartbreaking. I hope to back in 2-3years to do some voluntary work. Jocktopus8 1
@The other Indians: I'm Indian too, living in England. I went to India last year to get a bit of minor treatment for my chronic back (I think it's chronic anyways ;\) and it was heartbreaking to see the Poor on the roads. They're so innocent. D: Hopefully India becomes a really developed country, the big rich cities would be evened out in a perfect world. I dislike people who think chatting to ONE person on Facebook Chat is better than talking to all of your friends in ONE chat on MSN. And people who think MSN has no games. Excuse me, I've been on MSN for years and spent alot of last summer playing games on MSN while talking to my besties!
