He did that for Sunderland earlier this year, by subbing him on for Josh and it ended in disaster.

Maresca has his favourites and they'll always get a chance, even after making costly mistakes. 

Tosin isn't physically imposing at all, he likes backing off the striker and then we play him against Leeds who enjoy physicality, crosses into the box and balls over the top. 

I just hope Josh doesn't get fed up of riding the bench, would hate to see him ask for a move away.

I’m not sure he has his favourites but he deffo has problem with this squad, it’s already injury prone and the Club World Cup hasn’t helped matters at all, the team selection is so annoying but on the other hand what’s the alternative? Play the players every week for them to 100% get injured and we are stuck with the likes of tosin every game, which then falls into the fact we have no fluidity in our team at all because it’s constantly changing, it’s a rock and a hard place. His tactics are boring and I’m sick of watching them tbh, but one thing the manager is trying to do at least is keep the best squad he can for as long as he can, but it’s making us worse when we have to rest these players! This is what the team looks like without caicedo imagine it with more injuries

I want to see him going with the strongest 11 available from the start, not resting 5, so at least if things are not going our way he can change it up. Starting with 5 changes smacks of under estimating the oppo not only that but allowing him to use it as an excuse.

In what world do Tosin and Badshit start any game, and other players to foreign positions...as good as Caicedo is we have to start coping without him but we must start putting round pegs in round holes

I don't think he is managing this well at all, and I have said before I think it's being possibly picked above him because I don't think a manager can be as thick as he is being

Said the same thing, there is an article in the Mail describing the strategy employed by the directors. They are aware that it could risk getting some terrible results during the course of the season, but its a risk they are willing to take. Apparently it will yield "long-term benefits" whatever that is. IMO, that long-term benefit is just boosting the resale value of these players.

It's no coincidence that this Chelsea team has seen one of the highest number of starting 11 player rotations in the league.

And no surprise that Maresca himself comes out after the Leeds match saying that he 'regrets' not starting with Acheampong.

we have a huge problem with a lack of left-footed CBs and as (as I posted in Transfers) per The Athletic, we will NOT buy Murillo (and thus we can also really also forget other class lefty CBs like Alessandro Bastoni, Alessandro Buongiorno, Jarrad Branthwaite, Castello Lukeba, etc) because he is (this is insane) STARTING QUALITY

which means (as we will also not get LCB-playing right footer Guehi) the board fully intends to roll next season with a (hopefully) completely recovered (dice roll) Colwill and then Badi, with lefty Hato (who is more of a LB) as an option......... as our left-footed LCBs

all the rest of our CBs are right footed RCBs:

Trevoh Chalobah (NOT a true EPL title-challenging quality starter at all)
Wesley Fofana (who is never, post-injuries, going to return to near WC levels)
Josh Acheampong
Mamadou Sarr (coming in summer 2026)
Aarón Anselmino (returning from loan in summer 2026 unless cheap-ass Dortmund meets our price, which is unlikely)
