heh my problem with the call, and why the PK should not have been given is that the contact took place after the shot was taken; so, technically it was a collision after the action was complete. There was no follow up to that shot, so what exactly did the contact impede?

There was contact on Kane's foot and to me it was clear that it took place after the ball was kicked.

Tho apparently the rule VAR used was

"However, the decision was made correctly in the eyes of UEFA due to one specific rule. The rules state that any player can be penalized for a manner that "threatens injury to an opposing player" while attempting to win the ball, which justified Zwayer's decision to overturn his original call and award England a penalty."

Still questionable, but I'd not call it a "disgrace."

I don't agree with the penalty but it's the law, and if we are deviating away from law there is a bigger issue.

Officials are already massively under performing, but you punish them if they are not applying laws of the game.

A story here with no names mentioned-an up and coming referee is officiating an under 21 game it's a cup semi final, the score is 4-0 with two minutes left, the team who are winning are on the attack and the striker is one on one with the keeper, rounds the keeper and goes to slot it home. The covering defender dives to the floor and palms it round the post with his hand, the referee blows straight away, points to the spot and gives a penalty and issues a yellow card. 

The referee is being watched by 4 FA officials and assessed at the highest level. The full time whistle goes, game over. The main head refereeing coach pulls the ref to one side and says "Talk me through the penalty" to which he says "Yeah, blatant, and blatant yellow as the game was dead anyway" To which the assessor turns and says "OK, then he has committed DOGSO (denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity)  and we haven't sent him off? To which the official says wouldn't have affected the outcome.

The assessor simply says "If you get pulled up by Police and are breath tested and are found over the limit, do they let you drive on? Official says no, to which the assessors reply was "When we stop applying law we have a serious problem, you are now going to be remembered for this once incident that will remain forever throughout your refereeing career"

Apply law and you will always be able to back yourself, when you don't suffer the outcomes

France against Spain it was Mbappe 0.5 shots at goal at 2.00. Managed a poor effort towards the end - almost did n't count as shot at goal.
Kane against Switzerland slept it out for 80 minutes then subbed.

In the final a barely first division opponent, the suburbian Athinaikos.
