Aguero is an fantastic player and i would love to see him play for Chelsea but it does raise questions. Where does he play? Would we break up the Nico and Drogs partnership, is he willing to bide his time and take his chances? What would it mean for the likes of Di Santo, Sturridge and Borini?

Firstly, this season, I doubt Drogba/Anelka partnership would be broken. Ofcourse they will be rotated as Ancelloti like to keep his players fresh. But in Champions League, we will have the Drogba/Anelka partnership.

Secondly, He is for the future. Anelka will be 31 and Drogba will be 32 in March. We need young legs. Kalou has been shit most times and will most definately leave.

Between Borini/Sturridge and Di Santo, one has to go. Ideally, Di Santo/Aguero looks like an Ideal Partnership to me as Di Santo is the one that would hold the ball while Aguero can play in the second Striker Position.

Chelsea on verge of signing Sergio Agüero for £40m from Atlético Madrid

Chelsea are expected to clinch a British-record £40 million transfer deal to sign the Argentine international Sergio Agüero at a meeting scheduled with his agents next Monday.

The 21-year-old Atlético Madrid striker is close to agreeing terms with Chelsea who had inquired about his availability during the summer.

At that time Agüero had demanded a salary of more than £6 million-a-year which would have made him Chelsea's highest paid player – which the club balked at – but it is hoped he will now compromise on his wages.

Chelsea will meet his agent Bruno Satin, who is head of the football division of IMG, one of the world's biggest sports agencies, on Monday to hopefully agree a deal after Atlético finally sanctioned Agüero's sale earlier this week.

The Spanish club are still hoping to receive more than £50 million for Agüero but, it's understood, are now more willing to compromise on the transfer fee if a deal can be done.

Nevertheless, a transfer of £40 million would represent a Premier League record, smashing the £32.5 million paid last year by Manchester City for Robinho, and would also be a restatement of Chelsea's intent, having not spent hugely under owner Roman Abramovich over the past three years.

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has targeted Agüero as one of his major signings during the January transfer window. The club have been given permission to buy and sell after the Fifa-imposed transfer ban, following the Gaël Kakuta affair, was frozen pending an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Agüero scored two spectacular goals during the recent 2-2 draw with Chelsea in the Champions League. After the match Ancelotti joked that he would like to sign the exciting striker but it appears he was deadly earnest.

A meeting took place earlier this week with Chelsea discussing their strategy as to how they could acquire Agüero. Satin has also been demanding a hefty agent's fee – thought to be as much as £5 million – for the deal to go through but, again, he may be willing to compromise.

If Chelsea sign Agüero, as all parties now expect, it will represent something of a coup especially as it was thought they may struggle to acquire big-name players in January.

Indeed Chelsea may follow up the deal with a move for Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery, who would command a similar fee and who is also greatly admired by Ancelotti.

The deal for Agüero is sensitive for Atlético, who have struggled this season. The striker is their main asset and also a huge fans' favourite and the club's board has been concerned about alienating supporters.

Satin is in Brazil at the moment, having also travelled to Argentina, to try to clinch a number of deals to sign players who could replace Agüero in the fans' affection.

Such is Chelsea's determination to secure the deal they may, eventually, be willing to go beyond the apparent ceiling of £40 million that was set to sign Agüero.

They are acutely aware that if their CAS appeal fails, they cannot make another signing for some time. Even so Agüero will not be eligible for Chelsea in the Champions League this season, having already played for Atlético.

If Agüero does sign it will cast some doubt on the first-team future of Nicolas Anelka, with Ancelotti set to partner the Argentine with Didier Drogba in a preferred two-man attack.

Chelsea also remain keen on Benfica's Angel Di Maria, but deem the fee demanded for him too high, and Everton's Jack Rodwell.

The Telegraph reports that Chelsea representatives are to meet with Bruno Satin, the agent of Atletico de Madrid hotshot Sergio Aguero, in the hope that the player will agree to terms with the west London club.

TheCAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) has temporarily suspended thetransfer ban on the Roman Abramovich-owned club, who are consequentlyfree to bring in talent during the winter.

There seems to have been a further twist in the Aguero transfer, as the Daily Star claims that Roman Abrahamovich does not want to spend £40 million on the Argentinean. He seems to think the transfer fee plus his wages could be a waste of money. I hope he changes his mind and brings Aguero to Stamford Bridge as he is a cracking player who i would love to see playing for Chelsea.

didier drogba is moody same for anelka, aguero joining would break up the partnership and it's back to the bullshit.

:goodpost: u right we shouldn't plaining transfers looking only on January fixture. We have to think about future becasue im sure Fifa re-suspend us after this window. Our players don't get younger. i always like Kalou but i think he's not good enough replacement for our strikers.

As wonderfully talented as Aguero is and as much as I would like to see him in a Chelsea shirt, perhaps now is not the right time to sign him, he will be cup tied for the Champions league, we only have to do without Drogba and Kalou for a few games and we have Di Santo returning with some experience under his belt. lets not forget the promise shown by Borini, Sturridge and Kakuta, im pretty sure Carlo will use his youngsters or use a different formation, as fo rthe transfer ban, since the ban was issued Chelsea have seemed very confident that it will be overturned so I cant see us making any signings really unless we sign youngsters like Alan Dzagoev
