We're talking about hypothetical situation obviously but unless we buy a new ST in January, selling Batshuayi instead of Giroud is just plain daft. Those 2 aren't great but it's clear who Lampard prefers in the team.

plus Giroud really wants out

so, yes, Bats is going nowhere unless we do indeed buy a new CF and I just to don't see one out there who is actually available now (January)

maybe dice roll with Victor Osimhen, but that is pretty risky

Lampard makes promise to Chelsea fans as he lines up new signings

http://londonfootballnews.co.uk/chelsea/lampard-makes-promise-to-chelsea-fans-as-he-lines-up-new-signings/

Frank Lampard has vowed to “keep the balance of the squad right” after Chelsea were given the green light to sign players in January.

The club’s two-window transfer ban was cut to one window by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which also halved Chelsea’s fine from £460,000 to £230,000.

It came after Chelsea appealed to CAS after being hit with a transfer ban and fine by FIFA for breaching rules regarding the signing of young players.

The transfer ban led to a number of exciting youngsters coming through this season – and some Blues fans are concerned that might change now the club can re-enter the transfer market.

But manager Lampard has pledged to tread carefully as he looks to add to the squad.

Speaking at a press conference, Lampard said: “As much as it’s important who we bring in, it’s important to me that we keep the balance of the squad right.

“I don’t just see the 11 players that start every game, I see the squad as 20-plus men that need to help us over the course of the season.

“So if we’re going to bring in players potentially, or players leave, it will be with a view that we go in the right direction.”

Jovic you mean? :P

It's not a bad idea but we would then have to "wait" for Jovic to adapt to the team, new league, new country etc. Can he hit the ground running immediately? Will he struggle?

Unless a prime target becomes available, I'd think Batshuayi will be kept around at least until the end of the season. Giroud is the one likely to leave.

Jovic is happy in Madrid, first season is for adaptation, Zidane believes in him...

Release clause revealed as Erling Haaland is available for cut-price January transfer

https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/erling-haaland-release-clause-man-utd-transfer-news-dortmund

Salzburg striker Erling Braut Haaland could be available for as little as €20 million in the January transfer window, say reports.

The Norwegian has caught the attention of some of European football’s biggest clubs after a superb start to the 2019/20 campaign in Austria and the Champions League.

According to Bild, the 19-year-old has a release clause written into his contract that means he can leave Salzburg for just €20m.

Haaland has scored 27 goals in 20 appearances this season in all competitions, including eight in the Champions League.

Manchester United are interested in reuniting the teenager with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who he previously worked under at Norwegian side Molde.

However, the German outlet claims that Borussia Dortmund are currently leading the race to secure his signature in the mid-season transfer window.

The list of suitors doesn’t end there, as Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Sevilla and Valencia have all been keeping tabs on the striker’s development.

Lampard admitted he would now look to strengthen, despite being happy with his squad. With Olivier Giroud and Pedro both running down their contracts, and Willian yet to commit to a deal past the end of this season, Chelsea are looking at strikers, wide players, a full-back and a centre-back.

Lyon striker Moussa Dembélé and the Crystal Palace and Borussia Dortmund wingers Wilfried Zaha and Jadon Sancho are being tracked. Chelsea are also following Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell, who is unlikely to be available in January, and Bournemouth central defender Nathan Ake, whom they can buy back for £40m.

Lampard, however, says that he will go into the market with caution. “When you come into the club or when you want to go a certain way, sometimes the players you bring in and the attributes they have are key to that,” the former midfielder said. “I couldn’t make those changes to bring in the players that I felt would help the way I wanted us to play. Going forward, that is something that I will put to the club.”

Lampard said he was “very positive about what we have in front of us”, but “of course I’m always evaluating what can improve”. He added: “I have ideas of players in my mind. But at the same time with this, it’s so fluid because my first problem is the players now, how they train daily and how they perform at the weekend. And then review the squad as a whole. So, of course every manager in the Premier League will lie if they say they aren’t thinking about anything else. But your thing has to be that. And the other thing is, if you think there are improvements that can be made, then who is it and what do they look like.”

I think we need to get one in this January, even if it's just a short term loan, unless by some miracle our long term choice is available. 2013 Eto'o for example would have been ideal.

It's not really about them fully adapting it's at the point now where someone who just does the basics right will come in handy, the West Ham game shows just how much trouble we're in if Tammy goes down for any real length of time.

All I want from transfer going forward are upgrades/players that are world class or close to being so. I simply do not understand the logic of buying players like Zaha or Ake. I mean, who is sitting there thing 'you know what, I cannot wait to see Zaha in the team ahead of Willian/Puli/CHO, he is a massive upgrade on them'. Equally, who is saying that about Ake over Zouma/Tomori/AC?

One thing the ban has shown us, is that we have a lot of young boys who are capable of being squad players and even moving to the next level. We do not need good players to fill the squad any more but a select number of great players.

Of course we do not have unlimited funds but there is zero point spunking £60m on a AM that has question marks about whether he can get in ahead of Willian, Puli and CHO. Further, with Hazard, Morata and the other players we sold in the Summer we must have at least £150m burning in our sky rocket and that is before you add CL money and and all the wages we have saved from selling/realeasing the likes of Cahill, Hazard, Luiz and Morata who were all in the upper range of our earners.

Only position were we may need to consider someone under WC level is LB as Alonso cannot play in a 4 and Emerson is pretty average. Arguements can be made about GK but Kepa is protected by his outragous fee and wages. In that area we probably should make a play for someone like Foster when Watford are relegated in the Summer to put some fire up his ar*e.

If that's true we have to push for this. 20m, as ridiculous as it sounds, is nothing in today's market, especially amongst Premier League clubs and it's well worth a punt. This kid could turn into one of the great strikers of his generation and with Tammy seeming to go from strength to strength, we would have two of the best young strikers in Europe leading our line.

I would say Bats is worth around £30-35m

I think Bats plus £25m would be a fair price in January

I'm not entirely convinced by Zaha but if we were able to do a deal of somewhere between £25-30m and Bats for Zaha, I would be pretty damn pleased with that. Bats I don't think will ever reach a level that we need him to do, whereas at least with Zaha there is some untapped potential possibly there moving to a bigger club and playing alongside better players.

If you want a short term striker, Giroud is perfectly fine.

But who out there right now fits that bill?

Erling Braut Håland

his release clause is only 20m euros (£16.8m)

that is silly low money

that is basically what we paid for 6 months of shitty Higs on loan (6 month fee plus his crazy salary)

if Manure get him, we are probably going to be fucked for years to come

How is it "perfectly fine" when Lampard has barely played him? How is it "perfectly fine" when Giroud is clearly behind Batshuayi(!!) in the pecking order?

I honestly have no clue what happen with Giroud. But Giroud as backup st is perfectly fine certainly for this season. But like you said he is behind michy yet Giroud started against West Ham.

I don't know about signing a 19 year old striker. When we have Tammy.
