counting inflation adjusted prices for Kepa and the others

we have now spent £217m on keepers in April 2025 quid, starting with Kepa and going onward

insanity

I didn't want Kepa either but I'm gonna give them a pass there because Courtois fucked us and Kepa was highly rated at the time but Sanchez and Filip are a disgrace of scouting, anyone could've seen they are crap before we even got them as for Petrovic and Penders simply unnecessary talents when you had Mamadarshvili available and easy pick up.

no

that was basically all on us

we stupidly loaned him three staright years to Atletico

so he put down roots in Madrid

and then

the year before his transfer year

Marina foolishly said he would renew with us, so we turned down insane (think it was like £90m or so) money from Real that window, so we were forced to sell him for shit money the next summer

that lead to us meeting Oblak's crazy 90m plus release clause, but he told us to sod off, so we panic-bought shit Kepa

So many decent keepers have been available since Courtois left, we've briefly had an in form Mendy thanks to Cech's recommendation, but otherwise its basically all been dross. I can barely even remember the relaxed feeling you have when you know you will very likely only concede goals that are unstoppable shots.

Quite remarkable how bad we are as a club at picking them. And at overspending on the ones we do sign, fighting absolutely no one for their overpriced signatures, but paying top dollar anyway.

disasterclass buy

I said it from day one

as soon as he horrifically broke his leg with Leicester I permanently removed him from all my lists

You could add Nkunku & most likely Lavia to that list as well. Around £200m down the drain.

We've gone after keepers that are quite young or lack serious experience (Kepa, Petrovic, Jorgensen, etc). It's just one position that you rarely see players in their teens thrive in. Donnarumma is the only one that comes to mind in recent years.

If Thibo had come straight from Genk into our team, he probably would have never been given a chance.

most shocking of all the perma injured

NO idea how or why

insanely frustrating

It's like they didn't want to accept defeat after Southampton rejected our initial approach weeks after they signed him. There's no reasonable explanation behind most of the awful moves we've made since the new ownership arrived.

I meant his injury record

I can see why we bought him

Chelsea Football Club has today released the following update regarding Wesley Fofana…

The club can confirm that defender Wesley Fofana has today undergone successful hamstring surgery.

Wesley was assessed by specialists this week after the 24-year-old suffered an injury of the muscle. Following that assessment, it was concluded that an operation would be required.

I know. I'm saying they persevered because of the reason I mentioned. He did play 29 league games for Southampton (only out injured early on for a stretch of 8 games), so there wasn't much indication of his woes.

At the end of the day, we should have been cautious no matter given his age.

Fofana is too often injured to depend on and too often injured to sell. Who would buy a player who will be seemingly nailed on to miss huge chunks of every season? Nobody unless it’s back to France on loan with us covering his whole salary. Such a fucking shame too I was so excited about his signing. He looked nailed on to go to the very top before that catastrophic knee injury at Leicester.

An experienced CB is an absolute must this summer.

Why is Werner's name alongside the two flops?   At least Werner can say he was part of the side that won the UCL with Tuchel.

Gittens would suit Liverpool/Arsenal way more and where would he play with the likes of the Brazilian and Portuguese attackers joining us next season.

I’m just mentioning him because of the expectation vs what we actually got. Yes, he played a key part in an important stretch for us but when he was bought he was one of the most lethal finishers in Europe and we hoped we’d get a 15-20 goal per season forward. Instead he never lived up to that final Leipzig season he had and still hasn’t come close since.

I was keen on David at one point and the more and more I watched him play... no thanks.

He doesn't have anything special to his game. He floats. He actually hurts link up a lot. He is horrendous for Canada.

I'd take Rogers from Villa, but they'd never sell.

Might be time to get rid.

Shame since he is our best CB when he plays.
