It’s pretty well known that he has improved massively since then. He was just a teenager when he burst onto the scene so of course he was overhyped.

He has turned himself into a great player in France. I’m not saying we should make him our priority but if other options are off the table or we are priced out we could do a lot worse than Sanches.

How is his injury record lately? He's a super player no doubt. I see Milan and PSG want him.

Overrated, not overhyped.

I'll be dismayed if we sign this bloke. It will be a very discouraging sign from the new owners.

Possibly agent hype of course but I'll be delighted if true.

I do not rate this bloke at all. Like any professional footballer he is capable of great moments and the occasional good game but his talent level is such that he will not be a reliable contributor to top level sides.

Don’t think we have to worry about our owner getting involved in transfers anymore. Roman was a genuine transfer muppet like a lot of us supporters are and he was enamored but shiny names. Boehly doesn’t know a thing about footballers so I’m going to assume that all signings going forward are going to be in the recommendation or request of Tuchel.

Spot on analysis in my opinion. I think he bought Chelsea because he loved playing football manager and wanted to play for real. Evidence...

Close to the very beginning Bruce Buck gave an interview extolling Roman's love for football and described how you could name any player, no matter how obscure, and RA would have data about him. While Roman had the dosh to employ an army of scouts and IT operatives to build an independent database if he wanted to, Football Manager is obviously what he was using to impress Bruce.

In that same extended interview, Peter Kenyon was asked who was buying the players. Trying desperately to square the circle between admitting that Roman was buying some and outright lying, he said it was a 'committee decision' with input from everybody. Personally I have never blamed Roman for this because, as I've confessed before, if I owned CFC I'd have made the football decision on all incoming transfers. Certainly I'd have taken recommendations from coaches and scouts but the final decision would have been mine and mine alone. Bad but true. 😒

Only area where it doesn't appear there are viable targets anymore is at CDM/CM

pretty much every sub 30yo (so no Casemiro, etc) DMF option out there

(I am not convinced Jude Bellingham, potentially the best player overall listed in this post, even topping Kimmich down the road perhaps, is a full on DMF type, the same for Ryan Gravenberch (just signed with bayern today, arfff), who is a wee step down from Bellingham IMHO, but still a superb player potentially)

the list (and ones off the board)

Joshua Kimmich       never leaving Bayern in his prime, and to show you how time flies, he only has 2 full sub 30yo seasons left
Declan Rice  £150m is madness, but he IS clearly the best option if no price limit
Aurélien Tchouameni     Real Madrid
Nicolò Barella (closest thing out there to Kante, and with better offensive skills, but he is not at a classic DMF, and would be an insanely hard pull, he has said over and over he doesn't want to leave Italy)
Frenkie de Jong (not convinced he is a true DMF, if so, he would be a Jorginho replacement)
Wilfred Ndidi (not sold on him for the price Leicester will demand)
Kalvin Phillips    Citeh
Rúben Neves (big problem though, very likely to end up at Manure or Barca)
Boubacar Kamara     Villa
Yves Bissouma (not convinced he is a true DMF, interesting option)
Sandro Tonali  super hard pull, basically impossible barring a crazy overspend, plus, like Barella, he doesnt want to leave Italy)
Bruno Guimarães  (Jorginho replacement, but a hard pull, he is a believer in the headchopper project)
Douglas Luiz  (not sold on him)
João Palhinha  (1.90m, late bloomer (turns 27 in 6 weeks) at Sporting Lisbon)
Julian Weigl (Tuchel knows him well from Dortmund, not sure he is up to EPL physicality)
Ismaël Bennacer  (Kante type, regressed a wee bit, and also a hard pull)
André Zambo Anguissa  (was oki, note great in the EPL, a beast at Napoli on loan, still under contract to Fulham)
Mohamed Camara  (dice roll, 22yo from RB Salzburg, not sold on him, but he is hard to judge)

youth players

Pape Sarr    Spuds, was out on loan at Metz this season
Danilo (Palmeiras, played well against us in the FWCC)
Khéphren Thuram (1.91m, at Nice)
Lucas Gourna-Douath (18yo, 1.85m at Saint-Étienne)
Amadou Onana  (1.95m at Lille)

As I've previously said, he should be the first target we aim to secure, providing PSG hasn't done so already.

This kid looks awesome, must be said. Another Bayern steal in the transfer market. He looks like he can become a £100m player in a couple of years of development at Bayern.
