Chelsea Women's Champions League campaign begins tomorrow with their first group stage fixture against Real Madrid at The Bridge. (The UWCL switches to the single league format from next season, when a second tier European competition for women's teams will also be introduced.)

Manager Sonia Bompastor, and captain Millie Bright, spoke to the media this afternoon about tomorrow's match. The game can be viewed on DAZN's YouTube channel. Kick off is at 20:00 BST.

Highlights of last season's away group fixture with Real. A game which, it's fair to say, the girl's felt was stolen from them by the officiating.

Chelsea opened their Champions League campaign with a 3-2 win against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge.

Goals from Sjoeke Nusken and Guro Reiten put the Blues 2-0 up, only for Alba Redondo to pull a goal back for the visitors before the break.

Mayra Ramirez, who played for Spanish side Levante between 2022 and 2024, scored Chelsea’s third and although Linda Caicedo came off the bench to make it 3-2 late on, Madrid slipped to a first defeat of the season.

Emma is there - she cant stay away

She somehow managed to get US Soccer to pay for her trip. She's officially at the match to watch Emily Fox and Cat Macario. Both of whom are getting called up for Emma's next squad whether she sees them play live or not. 🙂

Chelsea have won 11 successive matches since the Frenchwoman took over from Emma Hayes in the summer and sit top of the Women's Super League (WSL) table.

Their 3-0 win over Celtic in the Women's Champions League on Wednesday meant they reached the quarter-finals with two group games to spare.

"As a club it's always important to make sure after four games you have the opportunity to qualify," said Bompastor.

Ever since the England vs USA international last November there have been rumours about US centre-back Naomi Girma joining us. Those rumours have really gathered pace over the last week, and it is now being reported in The States that the world record transfer has been completed. Girma is widely regarded as the top defender in women's football. Former Chelsea boss Emma Hayes has described her as the best defender she has ever seen. The fee is said to be $1.1 million. That would beat the current women's world record transfer fee by a little under $500,000 although there are rumours of Chelsea's French international right back Eve Periset going to San Diego as part of the deal.

It is also being widely reported that the club will be selling a stake in our women's team to an outside investor. It's not impossible I suppose that some of the money from this proposed sale is earmarked for funding the world record fee.
