So we have Alonso who tends to do allright in the final phase but can't get up there quick enough a lot of the time vs Emerson who can get up effortlessly but once there makes Moses look an ice cool decision maker.

I would say fullback not striker is the position that needs THE urgent upgrade, put Alexander Arnold and Robertson in this team tonight we win easily even with Giroud playing like an amateur.

Dont be saying that Emerson is the chosen one compared to Alonso... lets be honest both are painfully belpw average  have been saying it for ages. Sarri got stick for using Alonso at the start of the season and now Emerson has played considerable minutes its clear to see both arent great (Emerson will never be the same player he was before that injury and even then it was only one season that was hugely overhyped). Alonso's end product is below par but its probably better than Emersons, or there about the same. Personally think Marcos has got a lot of stick even when hes not played purely because he hasnt been anywhere near as effective as he was in his first season. Where he actually looked pretty good despite obvious physical limitations.

Alonso has got a lot of stick (and rightly so), due to his defensive ability (or lack of). Emerson's end product is poor but I would take that any day of the week over alonso's Sunday league defending.

Emerson's just as bad at defending.

The one thing he has over Marcos is his ability to run up the byline which can help speed up attacks, but anything else he's either just as bad or even worse.

Well let's just agree to disagree here, cause I feel that's just a ridiculous statement.

Right on. And their defensive deficiencies are very different too, which seems to confuse folks: Emerson’s pace helps him to transition back better than Alonso, but Alonso is physically stronger and wins many headers (check stats from United game).

after a tough away game where Alonso was arguably motm, I’m still waiting to see a similar contribution in attack from Emerson.

they are both terrible at crossing the ball though. Really painful to watch.

That's not saying much. That's like saying the shit I took this morning was better than the shit I took last night.

We seem to value motm performances, which included the goal that earned us a point and kept us in the race for CL, very differently.

my personal take is that Alonso’s ability to win us points is wasted when he plays LB. he’s often ineffective there for the reasons already discussed ad nauseam. It’s the manager job to find the position where players are the most effective.

Sorry just don’t see any quality in Emerson.

If we are upgrading at LB I would sell Emerson and keep Alonso. He gives us a different option off the bench or as a sub. Problem with Alonso is when he starts regularly, his more of a 2nd choice who we need for games like Burnley due to his height and Technic.

We are going to be forced too if this Transfer ban not lifted

I'm sure it will be postponed. However, a ban might be the only hope for most of our loan army.

Which loaness would you bring back into the squad for next season if the ban isn't lifted ???

Tammy/Michy, Reece James, Pasalic, Kenedy, Tomori, Zouma, Mount & Baba.

MvG could finally get a chance too.

I don't see anything in Kennedy to select him over CHo, pulisic, Pedro, willian.

pasalic as a back up to kante would be interesting.

Mvg is done sadly. No way he cones back from this injury and remains a top level player.
