Álvaro Morata

Despite an underwhelming season overall, I would give him at least one more season for sure. It has been full of challenges for him. In the beginning he showed promising signs, he fell off after his injury and probably had to play through pain for some time. The atmosphere in the team was really bad also for a long time, it surely affected him and everybody else. Let him have a full summer with us, let him start on a clean slate without all those missed sitters haunting him in the back of his head. We shouldn't make the mistake of discarding clearly talented players after a short period, we should have learned that from the past.

Besides, what are we gonna do if we sell him? It means we would need to sign yet another striker unless the club wants to go forward with Giroud and Batshuayi. I simply cannot trust the club to pull off a good signing, a better one than Morata at least. Who'd be available anyway? Maybe Belotti, Icardi or Benzema. I say leave our strikers alone, we have a good set on our hands already. We need to focus on fixing our midfield, that should be priority nr. 1.

Don't know how reliable any of it is but there is still talk on twitter regarding us doing business with juventus possibly for morata... This football lawyer guy claims this is the case:

I think this would be a mistake to give up on Morata already. When healthy he showed he could make a difference. Unless we decide to change our ways and break the bank for someone like Icardi I am not sure we will be able to recruit anyone at his age with his ability this summer. Lets hope these are false rumours.

We aint selling him after 1 season. Not after breaking our transfer record to buy him. We gave Torres all that time and we'll give Morata every chance to justify his price. He'll 100% be here next season.

I can't imagine us not buying another CF in the summer, so it's up to him whether third or even fourth (if Michy isn't sold) is appealing to him.

Can see him going out on loan if we're busy in the summer.

Sell Morata buy Dybala

yeah if we get dybala coming the other way, then no problem :P

Dybala has hardly been setting the world alight at Juventus and there were even criticisms that he doesn't do enough in the big games.

At least Morata has the excuse of this being his first season in a new country, club etc. Plus, he has scored some big goals in big games and has a decent goal record despite his issues. Dybala has been at Juventus since 2015 and his career has yet to really takeoff.

Best player in the league according to squawka

Few key differences between the two though.

1. Despite a so so season we could probably recoup most if not all the money we spent on him, Torres we had no chance so we had to keep persisting in the blind hope he somewhat repaid the fee but never did.

2. £50m in Nando's era was huge money, now not so much.

3. Morata could quite feesably really want to go, Torres was perfectly happy to stick around and steal a living.

Meh. Those numbers don't tell the whole story.

They are more reliable than the people you talk about imo. He was good against Tottenham in London too.

He is also the best performing player according to whoscored. https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/108/Tournaments/5/Seasons/6974/Stages/15404/PlayerStatistics/Italy-Serie-A-2017-2018

All he did was scoring a key goal. Hardly did anything else.

The metrics for Whoscored's Player Ratings is broken. It has Bakayoko at 6.93 rating or Fabregas at 7.07 and it isn't far behind Hazard or Kante. Do you think really think Bakayoko or Fabregas deserve that high of a rating when you look at their performances?

Their ratings aren't perfect, I disagree with a lot of them often times but to me, the fact that Dybala is an amazing talent who would be worth even more than Morata is undeniable... He scored 22 goals 5 Assists in Serie A in 24 starts this year, that's pretty good. I think most football fans in the world given a straight choice between the two would go for Dybala

You are talking about something completely irrelevant. You said Dybala's performance was not that good.

Whoscored and squawka say otherwise. I respect their rankings more as I have never seen a bad or average performing player being ranked the best in a major league by both whoscored and squawka.

Both sites also say Neymar is best in France and Messi is best in Spain, but I am sure you call them exaggerated too according to your high standards.

Irrelevant? I refuted your point about using Whoscored's player ratings system and even gave an example as to why it's unreliable. Are you really gonna ignore the fact that their system has only 0.83 difference between Hazard's performances and Bakayoko's? Do you really believe that the latter has been good enough to merit a 6.93 rating? Not even sure if you are taking the piss at this point. Have no issues whatsoever if you think Dybala is the best player in Serie A but if player ratings is all you got to back that up, then...wow.
