Mikel? Seriously? He played 10 years and almost 400 matches for the club, including many cup finals. Why would you consider him among the worst ones? There was Mineiro, Steve Sidwell, Maniche, Jarosik, Smertin.. Meireles was only here for a season but he was great and Mikel is a great player.

Fair enough. I did not say mikel did not play his part. Same with Meireles, but it always baffles me why mikel stayed for so long considering how little playtime he got... always bit parts (consider the time he stayed at the club). Him getting more playtime coincided with our worst moments in that period.

we might have developed 3 different younger players in that time. With likely different levels of success.

However, the incredible thing is how limited mikel game was. I mean he could do only two very specific things: tackle and pass in very short distances. He had a lot of difficulties with long balls and pretty much every other aspect of the game.

i mean we criticize drinkwater here but that guy is a lot more rounded than mikel (no pun :)). He can shoot score, hit a long ball. Mikel never did any of these things.

still bakayoko can not even control the football, so it’s silly to go on and talk about other aspects of his game. :)

cheeky swap

Alonso, Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Zappacosta, Bats plus £125m for Mbappe (and Mbappe can go back on loan until the bans end)

clears a shedload of salary and deadweight, Bats would possibly thrive in Ligue 1, PSG needs fullbacks,, they need MFers, and they get Mbappe for one last try at the CL,

hell I might even toss in Luiz (PSG wanted him back badly last year but we said no, so they bought Kehrer, who would have been perfect in Sarriball, and can play RB as well) with a little less cash

and roll with our CB's being

Rudiger (hopefully recovers quickly)

AC

Happy

Ampadu

Tomori or  Jake Clarke-Salter

Azpi can play CB as well if we wanted to loan out either Clarke-Salter or  Tomori or Ampadu (if we had no bans I think all 3 would have been loaned out)

I wonder if Bakayoko could be a temporary stop-gap while RLC is recovering. Probably a really useful player early on in the season if the next manager can tap into his athleticism and physical attributes. Could he be a poor mans RLC? Bursting runs and using his strength to be a presence in the midfield?

Maybe.... Maybe not....But I do think he could be a useful squad player next season.

The problem with having liabilities in the roster, in my book having a poor first touch qualifies, is that they eventually end up playing.

Unless it is Drinkwater, lol

FFS can we just dump him, do not care what we get for fee as long as it it around £15m to £20m , and get his crazy wages off our books

Bakayoko seems a luxury player

as we already have seven potential (actually 10 if you go deep) MF'ers NOT counting Baka

Jorginho

Ampadu (if not loaned out) who can play DH DMF or straight DMF as well

Kante

Kovacic

Mount (if not loaned out)

RLC

Barkley

not to mention Marco van Ginkel  (needs to be sold if finally healthy, plus he turns 27 in 5 months, so not like he has a decade of footie ahead) and the above-mentioned Donkeywater (turns 30yo in March, so REALLY needs to be sold NOW, what a fucking disastrous almsot £70m move by Marina the puppet), and also Lewis Baker (sell please, he turns 25 next April and is clearly not to Chels level)

Just say NO to BakayoKO

sell baby sell, IMHO (unless Lamps has some bizarre plan for him, which I cannot see, as he will NEVER be close to Essien level, let alone the god-like Makélélé)

I wouldn't mind giving Baka another chance to become a rotational option.

Look at Sissoko for Spuds. Everyone laughed at him and thought he was a clown. He was labelled a massive bust of a signing by Spuds. Remember when Eric Dier was the next hot thing for both Spuds and England? Sissoko came in for the injured Dier if I recall correctly, was given massive incidence, and is now one of the first names on their team sheet. Dier was nearly irrelevant for them last season.

Maybe if Baka feels the "love," gains confidence, and plays alongside players to mask his deficiencies he can be a valuable member of the squad. When we need a super physical team for a particular opponent a midfield 3 containing him may prove useful, who knows.

Haha yeah I thought bout him when writing.

we did a good job limiting his playing time... it’s a hard thing to do esp when a new manager comes along and asks, “what about that guy?”

heh sissoko is a poor player and definitely one of the players holding them back. And still a lot better, skill wise, than bakayoko.
