Wouldnt it be better for the club if Lampard and JT leave us next season?

I mean, how much do they have left? As much as I love them (and I absolutely do), they are not worth 300k/week.

You can't buy leadership. JT is a born leader.

He might not have much left in the tank..but he's still our best CB.

He should stay at the club, maybe in a playing/coaching type of role.

Im hoping they become legends for the club like them

Arn't we all...

If in 5 years time they are still here and performing for us and love the club etc then hopefully. But that is a long way away at the moment. I am hoping that in the future we will talk about how legendary the team of mata hazard oscar KDB Lukaku chalobah have been for us. And if we can mention any in the same breath as the 3 before them then we can all be very happy as Chelsea fans.

As much as i agree that Terry and Lampard have very much past their best and not worth the 300k/week wages however they are ones who represents stability within the club (both can very well be tagged as Mr Chelsea in today's era) and importantly brings in the experience that is so very much needed at the time when the team is transition.

We just cant have a young team without good experience and leadership (Arsenal is the biggest example who were fools not to capitalize on the invisible season) and for me these 2 are the front runners when it comes to experience & leadership.

Yes, but I am not asking us to buy 2 young players...

Terry cant play with his knee anymore, how will you match the biggest salary for a guy who will get injury or have to rest for 1/3 of the season (at least)?

That's time to walk away from that chimera that is the "we need them for experience".

Your analogy with Arsenal is true. In my opinion, the fact that they are in such shambles has a lot to do with the fact they do not have leadership, they do not have experience.

Even though, does having experience necessarily mean having 30+ years-old players ? No. Players younger than that can have the experience and the leadership. And having experience as a player does not mean a God damn thing, actually. You can have all the experience you want, if you are not able to put it into application, then this experience is as usefull as the ladyboy.

Look. As I have explained in the Lampard thread, at the light of the performances that he made against Newcastle and Man.City, one could challenge that he "brings in" experience. Against Newcastle, a player of his experience should have know better that the game should have been slowed down so we could keep the lead. However he did the opposite and kept playing like we were chasing the score. Against Man.City, an important match, he failed to impose his stamp on the game — the game passed him by. And he fucked up on the penalty. That is just two examples.

As for Terry, last year against Barcelona, he was sent-off because of a stupid foul on Alexis. Not only he put into jeopardy our chance to qualify for the final, but he also put into jeopardy our chance to win the final because Luiz and Cahill were injured. That was so reckless — you do not expect that from your captain and leader (and experienced player as well). Then, in the Community Shield — another important game, huh — he was at fault for the two first goals of our opponent. On the first goal, he made a bad clearance which ended-up in Toure's feet — and then had the luxury to have a golden occasion to score. On the second goal he let Tevez past round him. Againt Newcastle, he was at fault for their second goal. Just as a 10 years-old kid would do, he came out into the midfield and put in a stupid and reckless tackle — the back-line was exposed. Even David Luiz would have been proud of this "what the fuck" moment. He was also at fault for their first goal. He was beaten by Jonas in the air. Then again, that is just examples.

So that's what experience brings you ?

And for the sake of the debate, let's say that they actually brings in a more or less valuable experience. Until what point their experience can compensate their lack of mobility on the pitch ? Terry has the knee ruined. At this rate he will have to quit football in one year of time. And on the pitch he isn't the same anymore. He cannot run properly. It's easy nowadays to pass him by. The same is more or less valid for Frank Lampard. Of course, at a lesser extent. But he is slow and as a matter of fact he cannot track back properly. So the question is, could their experience compensate their handicap on the pitch ? Personally, I don't think so.

No. I think that the argument "we should keep them because they have experience" is just an excuse because we cannot face the fact that we need to move on and turn a page of our History. And I stress this sentence.

Point taken... And my bad that I should have added that we need to channelize their leadership and experience.

However i tend to also look at the positives and all the contribution provided by them, yes they have made terrible mistakes but who doesnt. And at the time when we are still to have a steady manager, there is no one to guide the young guns who are coming (i know u mite counter it by saying that the experience guys are responsible for the exit of the manager, then it would be the board to be blamed for giving so much leverage). Do we really have a leader on the field who can replace Terry or come close to him or players more passionate than these 2.

United are the best example where the manager has been able to channelize the experience of the older players to good effect despite the injuries, that is something which needs to be done. Thats my opinion!

I didnt say anything about buying 2 young players, did I?

I m just referring to the fact that we need good experience and leadership especially when we are in transition. Once the transition is done and we have the players to fill in the void then we can start getting rid of the dead woods ...

You can very well buy two leaders for the spot of JT and Lampards.

Dude, we are talking about 11mi/season in wages alone. Sorry, they are not worth it anymore....

If they accept something like 60-70k, then it is another discussion!

I dont want it to happen, really. But you got to admit it is a fucking big amount of money for 2 players who dont have the legs anymore!

Imagine if we get rid of Torres as well, that is roughly 20 million in wages for 3 players....

This will free space for the much needed top CB, DM, CM and ST. Without spending any more money than we already are.
