The Mourinho Thread

I'm confident we could beat them today.

Our best chance would be in a final as their superior quality would probably come through over 2 legs. Even then it would bery very difficult. If we concede first then we're screwed because of their counter-attacking. If we score first we'd park the bus, invite them on to us and inevitably concede.

You have to consider the possibility that Mourinho didn't want to teach them anything at all..considering how ultra-competitive he is, that wouldn't be surprising.

His first "real" students might very well be his own players, namely the likes of Drogba and Terry, who will manage big names and teams probably only long after Mourinho hangs up his coat.

Jose Mourinho blasts 'double standards' in row with Spain after Sergio Ramos aims sly dig at Cesc Fabregas and Diego Costa

Jose Mourinho has hit back at criticism levelled at Chelsea, chiefly by Sergio Ramos, and suggested there were 'double standards' at play in the club versus country row to have engulfed the Blues' season.

Cesc Fabregas and Costa withdrew from Spain's squad for a European Championship qualifier with Belarus and a friendly against Germany citing hamstring and groin injuries.

It prompted Spain defender Ramos to say he would like players to show the same commitment to the national side as they do their club.

But Mourinho, Ramos's old manager at Real Madrid, dismissed the comments.

'Ramos is a fantastic player, but he is not a doctor,' said Mourinho. 'He is not a doctor and I am the same.

'My doctor and the Spanish national team doctor, they had the scans and decided the player was not in a fit condition to play. I don't think Sergio did a medicine masters in the last couple of years to understand it.

'Vincent Kompany played today for Man City, but he didn't play for Belgium (against Wales),' the Portuguese added. 'He was injured. Okay?

'Did Leighton Baines play for Everton? No, he didn't but how many players were injured for the international teams and could recover one week later, doing his work at the club? Lots of them, lots of them.

'My doctor and the doctor of the Spanish national team, they had the scans and they decided that the player was not in the condition to play.'

Mourinho suggested there have been double standards in the reports about Costa, again highlighting Kompany's absence and subsequent return for Manchester City as they beat Swansea.

'Kompany didn't play for Belgium against Wales and he played on Saturday,' he said.

'Has he a compromise with his national team? I think he has. He is the captain of Belgium.

'Did he, how do you say, "cheat" by not playing against Wales to play today? I don't think he did. So we all accept that he was injured.'

Don't mess with Mourinho and Chelsea. Ramos should asked Barcelona players before saying anything.

I have to agree with Carlo if he has talking about European sense (CL) - Chelsea have not changed, yet. Lets see where we are or if we revert back to type (City/United games).

However one thing I can hold onto is that I will never forget (And that is when I knew Carlo was gone and had TO go, in my opinion) was when we played Jose in the CL and Carlo stood there with his eyebrow raised, no clue, no plan B, no tactical awareness of how the game was played out against that team.

Carlo gets credit for la decima, fine, congrats however with that team you should be closer than ever, thats not a dig, he is a good coach (trophy cabinet etc.) but there are things lacking.

It is no coincidence that Ronaldo goes to la liga and his goal tally goes through the roof, the EPL is a different animal, especially todays EPL, most competitive league game for game.

That said I would back us to beat Madrid over two legs but not a single one off game.

One thing Jose doesn't get enough credit for was how he refocused and reshaped our transfer strategy. In the past seasons we had become far too obsessed with buying young unproven talent and that strategy did leave us unbalanced squad and set us back even though it has proven very profitable. I'm sure if Jose hadn't arrived, we probably would have bought a bunch of talented youngsters to send out on loan while neglecting the immediate needs of the team.

The balance between buying genuine quality for now and talented youngster for the future is one other thing he has brought to the club.

Indeed, we got ourselves in such a mess even Mourinho needed a year to sort us out. Looking at our squad in 11/12 it's amazing we recovered so quick, Munich meant so much more than just the trophy.

Its not reverting back to type its being sensible, that's why this team will go far under Mourinho, because we can play literally whatever tactic is nessesesery, we dominated on Saturday against West Brom like we were Pep's Barca yet played a complete opposite game at The Ethiad.

That kind off adaptability in the modern game is gold, you see Arsenal, City and Liverpool fans moaning about no plan B in their team, well we don't just have plan B we have plans right down to ZZ.

My point is not about adaptability - I know we can mix it with Stoke on a wet night at The Britannia whereas other teams cannot or not having a Plan B to Z etc. - reverting to type about trying to close out a game with the different personnel in the wrong situation. There is only so much Jose can do from the touchline, he cannot climb on Schurrle's back and follow him until the final whistle whispering "Track the runner".

No doubt we will go far with the trophy cabinet, I'm worried about the latter stages of the CL.

Just to add to my post above, I may come across as a negative nancy but let me be clear in that I am extremely excited about this team and Jose in general.

We have our flaws, no team is perfect and with our blue tinted glasses on we all pick apart Chelsea more than others because its OUR team.

Ronaldo was actually killing the EPL before he left.

People was saying that same thing you said, that the EPL defense is shit and all that.

Ronaldo is just too good, simple as that.

I'm aware, I've been watching the EPL for a while now.. ;) I do not recall people saying that the defences were bad though.. Not disagreeing that is not 'too good' - the guy is a monster, same as Messi but its a widely shared opinion that La Liga is.. easier to score in, smaller teams and such, its a big point to make but I can't be bothered to write it all out, common sense should have kicked in by now as I said its a commonly shared opinion.

And its in no way a dig at Ronaldo, beast.
