nadavTKL 1,787
Agree. Ideally there would be another Van Persie/Benzema type walking around who we could pick up.i realy cant agree on Benzema, last type of striker i think we need. we have three playmakers, what we need is goals, someone to pass to so he could finish. Both Cavani and Falcao will be great for it. Benzema wouldnt, we all saw how it looked in France in the Euros, he's just not a pure striker. In Real it works because there is Ronaldo who is half a striker. Plus, Benzema is not a world class finisher.

Sheva. 5,373
We better not buy him if he continues playing like this, or it will be just another Torres scenario I expect him to start scoring soon though, hopefully lol.
Hutcho 8,443
LOL, we don't need a striker who can drop deep or do some great passing, or is known for his scholes like through balls. We have emense creative quality in the 3 behind,I just want someone who puts the round thing over the line. I am not too bothered how he does it just as long as he does it. The difference between him and Van Persie is Van Persie knows how to perfectly balance his role as a goal-scorer and his involvement in build-up play. Benzema is still a work in progress in that aspect. Sometimes great, sometimes pretty anonymous. But he's got everything you want in a striker. He's a great finisher, the man can score the most amazing goals. Just look at the goal he scored against Bilbao, that's typical Benzema. But he's inconsistent, he'll have games where he can't seem to finish. It's incredibly weird.Benzema has always underperformed for France and he's not the first to do so for his country. Not all his fault though. France have some great names but they're disjointed and they've been like that for years. The problem with poachers is when you don't play well and have a hard time creating chances, you're basically playing with 10 men. Falcao is currently thriving in a counter-attacking team. That's their game. They don't like to have possession, they want to hit you on the break, that's when they get space. That's what they did against us so well in the Super Cup. But we usually have games where we enjoy most of possession and the opposition will sit back, denying us space. And in such a set-up, you need all you're attacking players to contribute well in the build-up/creation of chances. You can't have 3 players doing everything against 8/9 players.I'm not saying Falcao will fail here but as long as we aim to play possession football, a Van Persie/Benzema type is ideal. It's hard to just turn the switch back on, this is what happened with Torres.
Joker10 946
Cavani reminds of Drogba actually, though he's more of a poacher. He'll drop back to get involved a bit. Not as good as Drogs though but he's pretty decent at it. He also knows how to hold on the ball quite well imo. And what I've always liked about him is his pretty decent long passing which he uses to switch play, a handy trait. Not to forget his high work-rate.All those are valid points, but it still doesn't make them that different imo. Cavani is still more of a poacher then a complete striker like Benzema, RVP, Ibra, Aguero, Suarez, etc. I feel both players strength and main ability are finishing and poaching ability, neither player are really going to hurt you with their dribbling or passing to make them that different. To say Benzema and Van Persie are the same type of strikers is very superficial for me, you even explained it with nice words yourself. RVP does got this game when he goes deeper, but then again he's a striker and he's always there to finish chances, this "balance" you mentioned is a hugh difference between them. And im not even talking about the bigger difference in their finishing abilities.Youre talking about Falcao like he's so limited... Falcao can contribute alot when we're playing bad, he can score goals by making he's own opportiunities."as we aim to play possession football" - i cant see why people seem to think we aim for that, or can do that. You absolutely cant do that with a midfield of Ramires and Mikel, not against quality teams i mean. You can control the ball nicely, not saying we should be 2nd best in that case all the time, but we wont CONTROL big games with possession football for 90 mins. If you want more possession, imo it should come from a new midfielder who can pass the ball well, i dont think we should play with a false9 or something similar (Benzema) to achive that. Not when you dont have any other scorers in the line up - we dont have a C.Ronaldo of Messi or Ronney near the striker, we have Hazard and Mata who are good infront of goal, but not that good. I think a big time finisher is needed.

BlueLyon 9,359
If there is a thing I dont want to see, its buying another 50mio player who would turn in flop. It would be a nightmare.Chelsea board, think 10 times before you buy a new striker.

Reddish-Blue 2,503
3 league games without scoring. Hmmm...I'm starting to get concerned...I'd hate to see another big money flop.Maybe we should look at bringing in Bony in January. He wouldn't cost that much and he seems to have a knack of scoring goals. Then..in the summer, we could bring in Lewandowski or someone else for 25-30 million. There are other good options around and after all the nightmares we have had with buying an expensive strikers in recent years, we could do with someone without a heavy price tag on him.
