He could have gone anywhere. Glad he is staying. :)

I think thats why he stayed- because he CANT go anywhere. Not many clubs would pay his wages, i think the only option for him was PSG, and they said they arent interested. I kind a predict he'll sign after i read about PSG... very good news anyway, Bertrand doesnt seem ready imo.

HOW?!

Well if they had a long term manager in place I think Lampard and Cole would've been out. As it stands there is a real lack of options in the summer so it's possible that Rafa will remain but only for a few years until Roman finds that manager to completely rebuild the team.

Would be stupid to get rid of Cole if no one was lined up in the summer (Just my opinion ofc).

Clearly I'm not as happy about this as most of you are. Apparently this new contract will be worth £8m for one year. Hell, that's £150k a week so first he's supposed to be on his way out and now he gets a pay rise to stay? He's definitely not as good as he once was and in my opinion doesn't deserve those wages. At least it's only a one year contract and it gives us more time to either find a replacement or wait and see if Bertrand is ready to step up and be the number one left-back at the club but at this age his wages really should be starting to go down and not up because his contribution to the team is not the same any more.

Those are just speculations about his wage...we just don't and probably won't know his wage... But I doubt it's more than 100k...
It honestly doesn't bother me as he is still one of the best left backs and unless we are gonna pay 10 mil + for another quality one then why not keep the great one we have.

And if we bought a replacement that would cost us more than what his wages would cost anyway. Name me a left back as good or better who is available and cheap. I cant think of one (don't say luke shaw). He has great potential no doubt but is a long term option not a replacement for AC.

Where did you get those numbers from? Seems very unlikely.

Asley is still good, he just need to gain some of his previous form :)

The best in EPL is Baines, but he isn't cheap...maybe 15 mil, but that's bargain for him, even at 28...

Anyway, leave Cole for another season, and then give bertrand and PVA chance in the first team...
