We have 19 non-HG players in the squad but we can only register 17. Which 2 players would you get rid off to stay within the limits?

The problem isn't we need more HG players. The problem is that we can't have more than 17 non HG players. We can have 0 HG players if we want which would mean we can only register those 17 and no more.

The way to solve this is not to get English players just to make up the numbers but rather English players who will actually contribute to the first team.

What's the point of having 3 English Hilarios, when it'd be the same as not having any.

Forget Moses, Bertrand, and the lot. If they can't contribute now nor in the future, they should be sold.

Buy first team or squad English players otherwise save your money.

But by saying 'or squad players' surely Moses, Bertrand and the lot fall under this category. It's not easy to buy HG players to be squad players for an affordable price.. Unless we get them out of contract like Barry et al.

No they don't. I mean squad players who Jose expects to contribute. Players who at worst contribute like Schurrle, Lamps, etc. Not Bertrand, Moses, etc. who will only be given 2-5 games all year.

Could you provide examples of homegrown squad players capable of contributing to Jose's tactics?

All I see is players of similar quality to Bertrand and Moses....as in: solid players for lower-EPL teams

I don't think there are a lot. Chelsea seems to think the same, probably the reason they don't want to overpay for just any homegrown player. Instead they are clearly working on promoting from within. Guys like Ake, Lukaku, etc.

That's my point from my earlier post. Don't overpay or compromise squad strength just to make up homegrown players. Either promote from within (save money) or buy only the ones that will contribute (squad strength). Worst that could happen is that we are forced to register a smaller squad, 23 instead of 25, not a big deal imo.

But I think those players are like Moses and Bertrand. So suggest they won't have a sporadic contribution is harsh.. Bertrand has shown maturity and capability to play as a back up left back many times when we're played him. The champions league final the most prominent.

If anything Lampard is one of those players who you should be looking to not have in for the sake of HG as on the basis of this season his contributions are far less significant, while also taking the place of the youngsters you'd see come into the squad instead.

You're missing the point. I'm not arguing about the actual players. But rather the idea of how we should be looking at homegrown players. We shouldn't be buying players just for the sake of them being homegrown. Buy if they improve the squad and if they happen to be homegrown, even better.

If Jose is going to play Hilario 20 games a season then even he is worth keeping. The actual players we have and their roles is a separate discussion.

Exactly! He needs to be "affiliated" to the FA or Welsh FA, meaning he has to be playing for an English or Welsh team. That's why didn't want to send Ake on loan to Vitesse this season so he would stay in England and become a homegrown player.

Aké stayed with us to be "club trained" i think that's why he didn't go on loan. I think LDN is right with player sent on loan abroad, they can be HomeGrown but not club trained.

Kalas will be HG while being sent to Vitesse but i'm not sure about that

Kalas won't be HG for us, he hasn't spent 3 years in England.

I think this needs to be looked at again...

Goalies: Petr Cech; Thibault Courtois; Mark Schwarzer

Defenders: John Terry(HG); Gary Cahill(HG); Cesar Azpilicueta; Filipe Luis; Branislav Ivanovic; Nathan Ake(HG)

Midfielders: Eden Hazard; Oscar; Ramires; Nemanja Matic; John Obi Mikel; Andre Schürrle; Cesc Fabregas(HG); Marco Van Ginkel; Oriol Romeu; Mohamed Salah; Willian;

Forwards: Diego Costa; Romelu Lukaku(HG); Didier Drogba; Fernando Torres

This just doesn't seem to make a hell of a lot of sense now does it? 19 players who count as foreigners the max is 17.

2 players need to leave :

1) Romeu or Mikel

2) Torres

Van Ginkel in the mix too... I like him but lets be honest he's not really squad player status right now. He needs to play a lot at his age and with Matic, Ramires and Cesc, I doubt he gets a lot of looks.
