To me Real Madrid has already lost the opportunity to keep Varane with them.

Last week one journalist asked Varane if he would continue in Real Madrid next season and Varane replied that "he only talks about this season" with a serious face and making clear that he probably will not continue with Real Madrid next season .

Even I have the intuition that Jose has convinced him fully to join us for next season ...

Varane demonstrated Yesterday he is probably one of the best center-back in the world. Perhaps the only problem is that Sergio Ramos and Pepe have too much power in Real Madrid. In a real world Varane would be in the starting eleven on any team in the world.

This week Jose spoke of creating a team to have hegemony in football for the next decade. IMO to create that legendary team that can dominate the football the next decade we need Varane as most important piece.

Varane is one of a kind. 2 years ago he was already one of the best in the world and was better than Ramos and Pepe. The injury was a problem, and some people in Spain say that he feels pain when he plays... that's the reason why I'm not sure if this is a great idea.

About his qualities, we can't get any better than Varane if he is ok.

I think Jose has Varane totally convinced to come with us. To me Real Madrid is an extremely overloaded team and many players end up hating his cheap glamor and I believe that this is the case of Varane.

IMO we'll buy Varane for £50m and RM will buy another Galactico in David Luiz for the same money from PSG.

People here are forgetting that RM are a business rather than a club. Otherwise Ramos would have been gone a long time ago, and Diego Lopez would still be between the sticks as opposed to Casillas.

We will get him. Real Madrid already tried to offer Illaramendi in part of the deal for Aymeric Laporte in January. But Bilbao said no, they want cash only. Also they don't want to make this easy for Real and doesn't want to sell even euro less than release clause, so Real would have to pay taxes on top of that clause. However, I think they're going to strike a deal. In the summer it will be easier and if Bilbao still want Illaramendi they somehow meet at the middle ground, I hope so.

But why Real need Laporte there's the question. Replacement for Varane or his partner ?

Varane already gave a couple of hints here and there that he doesn't want to speak about the future and only focus on this season. I didn't get for a one bit a conviction that this player is really committed to Real for the next 6 years.

Assuming we keep him for 15 years (a little optimistic, but it makes the numbers easier) and we pay £60m, which is a lot for a defender, that's £4m a season. Not a bad return, and that's the way FFP will look at it too.

Like you said, it is crazy to pay that amount of money for a defender.

The only reason for you to pay that kind of money is for a player who can decide a match almost by himself i.e if there is another hazard out there, I have no problem shelling out that kind of money.
