Strange that there is no thread for general news from around the world. Good news, bad news, funny news, post it all here.

I'll start things off with this strange little story:


A BRISBANE architect accused of trying to shoot dead a homeless man with a bow and arrow will be placed in custody in a mental health facility.

You are kidding right? If I saw a black teenager walking down to the nearest corner store to buy skittles the first thing I would do would be to run up behind him and unload several buckshots into the back of his unassuming head.

UGH! It is Florida, that has a long way to go! Don't blame the other 49 states for what happens in one state! This was not a federal case and individual states have their own laws. Most are very similar but they can and do differ widely!

The trial was not to establish whether he was guilty of shooting Trevon, but to establish his motive and if he truly felt his life was in danger. The Florida law is written in such a way that if he believed that he was in danger and believed he would be killed then he can use deadly force to defend himself. A lot of Southern states have this type of law in regards to handguns but the distinction is that it has to be in your home, business, and/or on your property.

Please don't jump to the conclusion that I agree with the verdict, I don't. I think the case was screwed up from the beginning. Examples of how: 1. The police did not arrest him when they should have, but waited until there was an uproar from the media. 2. The concentration that this was racially motivated. it was nota out race, it was about an idiot with a gun who wanted to be a policeman so bad that he convinced himself he had authority to act as the one in his neighborhood. 3. The moment they tried to twist this into a racially based case was the moment they stopped looking at Zimmerman's state of mind. 4. The focus should have been on Zimmerman's belief he could act as the police and why. 5. I believe the man is mentally in unhinged or at least has delusions of grandeur

Imo, it has to go back to the gun laws. You should have the right to defend yourself if you think you are in danger, but shooting people is not the only way to defend yourself. Whatever is wrong with pepper-spays or even tasers?
