Fernando Torres

There was no supply once again though!

This is exactly why I said I wouldn't start with him before the match.. excuses. The thing is we have 'no service' for our strikers at the moment so why play the striker that is useless without it...

You've been proved right in a very big way. Drogba proved he can create as well as score. Today he created much more, Torres was dormant.

Exactly, but it seems like most fans refuse to give Didier credit for anything (and it's starting to piss me off) yet they praise for Torres for solid touches or for getting into goal-scoring positions/getting opportunities to score, the fact that he doesn't finish them doesn't matter..

The big problem is, therefore. What does Carlo does with Torres?

Hopefully it's just due to fans being defensive against the scousers and the media. I can't imagine many having the same attitude if he keeps playing like this.

The most logical thing would be to bench him but his price tag makes that almost impossible to do.

The other option is to play Benayoun behind him.

I've said it before. Torres won't score unless Benayoun plays. In games like these, we need the skills and the quick feet of Yossi Benayoun.

Who even knows if Benayoun will the be same player he was! Lord knows injuries have done their work on Essien & Bosingwa..

Yeah i'm afraid of that too. But that's what you get for having only one player of his type in your entire squad.

Any Benayoun talk is groundless to say the least. He's hardly had the time to prove that he's on the same wavelength as his teammates and we're going to depend on him being our creative force?

Experience aside he could be almost as much of a risk as Kakuta would have been.

I remember him doing a very good job in the playmaker role vs Zilina in the CL and the reason I keep mentioning Benayoun is the fact that he's our only (creative) hope and he and Torres were teammates for years. And there's no real understanding needed in a 'Torres makes a run of the shoulder of a defender, Benayoun spots it and attempts a pass' situation.

Hoping Benayoun is THE answer is going to disappoint a lot of people. He may help. He likely won't either.

Drogba will more often than not look more "threatening" than Torres even if the end product is the same. They take up the space of the center forward position but their style of play is very different. Even last November when Torres scored twice against Chelsea, think about what he looked like the entire 90 minutes. Do you remember? Perhaps 3 or 4 very good moments and from that, 2 spectacular goals. He's always drifted in and out of games. Sure on his best days, he looked like he was all over the place but those kind of games don't happen all the time. The difference is at his pomp, he would win games with one or two great moments per game. It's not working out for him right now. And today he wasn't close to great. But if that header had gone in, what would everyone be saying? Most likely that he has to be starting forward for next week's game. One goal from 3 or 4 good moments. More or less that's the way he's played in the last 4 years. Unfortunately right now, he's going through the less part....very, very less. And no, at this point, I don't know what's going to change for him. Like Chelsea, perhaps 2010-11 can't end soon enough for him. It's been a nightmare.

Having said all that 0-1 isn't insurmountable. ManU are in charge of course, but one goal from Chelsea next week and there's hope yet again.

I didn't remember the Zilina game at all so you have a point but his relationship with Torres is overstated as Benayoun wasn't Liverpool's main playmaker and mainly operated on the wings whenever he started

Doesn't matter, he trained and played with him so he knows him and his moves. And like I said:

there's no real understanding needed in a 'Torres makes a run of the shoulder of a defender, Benayoun spots it and attempts a pass' situation.

And remember that I said, this is all hope since it's all we got.
