iamjack 8
That's the problem: Finding a striker who meets the criteria. Is Schürrle the answer? No, I don't think so. He's about to become a starter for Germany so he needs regular playing time. I doubt he'll want to be our 3rd choice striker and rot on the bench. But the fact that he can play on the wing means he wont have to sit on the bench as much he can give us at option out wide and getting a "an out-and-out striker" wont gives us that and most likely sit on the bench. Amblève. 4,995
But the fact that he can play on the wing means he wont have to sit on the bench as much he can give us at option out wide and getting a "an out-and-out striker" wont gives us that and most likely sit on the bench. We've already got Mata, Hazard, Marin, Ramires, Oscar, Moses, Malouda and Kakuta (plus even Sturridge if he has to) who can play on the wings. So do we really need another player for one of those 2 wings?! No. Whereas we just have 2 strikers, so we're just 1 injury and 1 suspension away from being left with no other real strikers. Jype 6,398
But that's the problem if we buy a striker what about Sturridge? andTorres? and will the new striker be willing to sit on the bench. If it's for the good of the team, then they should be willing or they can all fuck off for all I care. Even if Torres is now finally looking like he's starting to deliver, we are still very much light in that department when compared to our rivals and one injury can truly mess up our whole season. Teams with only one quality player per position never win a thing. Maybe the player himself will score buckets of goals and enjoy the personal glory, but if they care about what's best for the team, they will have to realize that sitting on the bench every now and again is all part of the game. For example, I don't see Rooney complaining about Van Persie's arrival to United even though it limits his own playing time and means he will have less goals to his name. In fact he was ecstatic to have such a quality player join his team. I don't know about you guys, but if Sturridge or anyone else for that matter is more interested in that personal glory and gets off on seeing his name on the scoresheet despite his team losing the game, then they can all leave the club in my opinion and we should get a player with a better attitude as replacement. All that bullshit about Torres losing his confidence again if another quality player is bought to compete with him is pure nonsense. Maybe that worked out well for him at Liverpool on a personal level but like I said, a club like that never wins anything and we've clearly seen that over the years. If he can't handle the competition, then his place is simply not at a club aiming to compete for the title.

I know its not a natural position for him but he looked good there in pre - season. What striker do you think we should get?
YouNameIt 1,511
He is comfortable playing upfront or on the wing that's what we want imo and he is young. Why would we spend that much money when we've already got a player like that: Sturridge. PLUS we've signed a RW: Moses. No, we dont need a striker and I dont want us to buy one. Torres at least seems to get back on track, and I feel comfortable in giving Danny some responsibility and trust if Torres backfires. Plus what would happen with Danny if we bought a striker? Winger? Hardly... It would be a HUGE waste of talent there.

Surely we'll see Ramires playing as a CM or CDM this season but Robbie seems to love him on the right wing. Marin is injured but he still will want to get playing time when he's fit. Piazon is far from being ready for the first team so I wouldn't consider him an option this season.I can't name you any names, sry. As I said before, a big body with a good header and a decent finishing ability would be perfect IMO.
TacticalBlues 2,817
In terms of teams relying on the strikers for goals we were bottom last year:We still scored 65 goals but that's just under 30 to Man City. We do have Lamps taking the pens so that makes a difference, but nonetheless we do need our strikers to show up this year. Our service has been bolstered dramatically which will work in tandem with the aim to score more goals but we need Torres to show up. Let's just see how it fairs and give him to the next window for me. Torres showed in the Euros with the service he can still score. If worse comes to the worse we have Sturridge who has that clinical eye for goal (which looked selfish on the wing but is desirable as a striker) and would thrive in the striker role. Lastly we do have an option to play Piazon or Moses as second strikers. If Falcao comes up buy instantly, stupid not to go for the best striker in the world. Mustafa 885
I think we can all agree that Berbatov would be perfect as he is Man Utd's fifth choice striker... And we could get him very cheap! Plus we need a forward with experience in the Premier League. I'd hate it if we sign a young player for big bucks from abroad and he just flops in Premiership
Atwa 78
I have thought about it and the only thing that makes sense is to get someone on loan. That or we sell Sturridge. Cause what will happen when Lukaku returns and we have 3 already? One has to go, and out of Torres/Stur/Lukaku I chose Sturridge to go
Porthos 35
If we bring in a new high priced expensive striker our current high priced expensive striker will cracks the sads again
blue_swaggin_96 96
lets hope somebody bids for sturridge, if we can get 20 million for him, i don't think any 15 add on wouldhurt to just grab hulk!i really want us to grab hulk, we need him, his going to be wide striker ! then when torres doesnt work out, we can swap and put one of attacking maestro wide! Tricky 301
I was championing the Berbatov idea but I'm beginning to feel we are just fine. Fairly sure we could recall Lukaka (we are not that stupid) if hit by injury upfront. Worst case scenario is we look for someone in the winter transfer window.Going to enjoy watching Torres this year along with all those haters back peddling on some of the statements made during the Pre-season. I know who you are....?
Parks 24
Why the interest in Berbatov when according to all the gossip is, Rooney is on his way. Would you welcome Rooney if he was available?

termninja 5,290
With Torres showing positive signs I don't want a new striker. Yes, it's risky going with 2 strikers, but we can always recall Lukaku and so far he is showing great signs at WBA. That said, if Daniel decides to leave then yes, we must go into the market for a new striker indeed.
blue_swaggin_96 96
bring on hulk for torres sake!i really prefer cavani, but this would add another " emotional toll " to torres pitch behavior.

But FUCK that, £40 million for him is a scandalous amount of money. I'd honestly throw up a little bit of sick if we signed him for that. BlueLyon 9,359
Would love to have either Falcao or Cavani, but that would ruin Torres. Jovetic would be only player who can give us something more, but wont affect on Nino.
