New striker needed - but who?

1. A slightly better Kalou.

2. Not really a striker.

3. Would be wasted money.

Personally I'm okay going into the season with Torres, Sturridge and Lukaku. If Romelu is going on loan, then we definitely bring a new striker in. My suggestion is someone like Steven Fletcher, who's proven in the prem, wouldn't mind fighting for his spot and wouldn't cost a bomb either.

I do rate Fletcher but do you think he'd be good enough against the top sides in the premiership or in Europe. I don't know if it's because he's not the most 'fashionable' striker around (a rough looking Scotsman playing for Wolves), but seeing Steven Fletcher leading the line on the team sheet against AC Milan or Atletico Madrid, etc wouldn't fill me with confidence.

Why is it under the consensus that Torres is undisputed number 1?

He has done nothing to earn that title, Drogba and Hasselbaink before them worked bloody hard to get known as the number 1 forward now we are just going to hand it to Torres?

No way, if Torres earns the right through performances on the pitch then i will call him the number 1 forward, until then he has to work hard and take on whatever competition for that place we bring in.

It's not to me. To me the number 1 striker spot is between Sturridge and Torres. Whoever doesn't grab their chance will find theirselves on the bench.

Torres is widely considered the number 1 because of how high profile he is etc... In actual fact he isn't the undisputed number 1, i would still have him over Sturridge atm, but it doesn't mean he always has it. If Lewandowski or someone of his calibre was to come then he would be a serious contender for it...

Would you be confident with Ba, Rondon, Schurrle or any of these other okay strikers leading the line as well? Fletcher would be a decent 3rd choice option, if both Sturridge and Torres were out injured or weren't producing.

To me, having 3 good options for one position is more than enough.

schurlle has a good goal scoring record. didn't have the best season last year for leverkusen but he has quality. most importantly, he's not a direct threat to torres or sturridge as he can ply his trait on the wings.

cordazo is a goal machine and so is doumbia. they will give us that extra option off the bench.

It might take something like a thrashing from City next weekend for Roman to see it necessary to buy a top top class striker like Falcao or Cavani. If we get completely dominated(which I really don't think will happen) or Torres looks utterly useless, the panic amongst fans may at least force the board to make some inquiries for these world class strikers.

We're so close to bringing together an amazing team I can taste it. Just 1-3 more players and a few out and we can start the process of building chemistry.

Tbh, i don't think we can blame the board considering we have brought in a lot of great signings full of young talent, we can't keep asking for more big name sigings in every position thats not going great... It would be nice to have that but i think it is an unrealistic expectation...

it's been confirmed that we will get 2 players this window. a right back and..a striker/winger.

Yeah i know but i am saying to expect big name signings every time is a bit unrealistic, i know he said we will probably get one or two more players...

Well I've read the OP so I'm not mentioning the usual super star names.

If we want a contingency / support for Torres what's wrong with Defoe or as suggested Peter Crouch?

Guess it depends on how we are intending setting up to play this year. But Defoe is a proven goal scorer in the PL. Is disgruntled with life at the spuds and wouldn't have to relocate. Crouch is actually a useful big man as well, plus he is a Chelsea fan.

Falcao would be my first choice. Lewandoski might be more realistic.

Damiao could be a good signing, he's young, starts for Brazil so would link up well with Oscar his former club teammate. Reminded me of Drogba with his goal against Honduras. Seems he would cost >£20m too and probably wouldn't have to start every game as someone like Falcao or Cavani would expect too.
