I was hoping that Jamal would be promoted this season instead Tronbull ( ) but judging by pre-season, it's not going to happen. We do have numbers but lack quality in terms of back-up keepers. Worst case senarion (i.e. Cech gets a lengthy injury) we could simply recall Thibaut as Term suggested. So I'm gonna say no although I'm not at all satisfied with back-up keepers we have now.

Blackman is imo very talented. I'd prefer him to be our back-up over Turnbull and Hilario. The question is how long does he want to be just 'a back-up'. For the next few years he won't mind staying at Chelsea. But he'd also be a great back-up for Courtois in de future.

I don't think a new second goalkeeper is necessary.

I keep hearing people says how badly we need a Right Winger and a Right Back, yes we need them, give us Hulk/Moses and Azpi/Debuchy will make us more balanced.

However, I'm very much surprised no one gives a damn about us desperately need a bloody DECENT backup Goal Keeper. Let's be honest, if something wrong with Cech, we are most likely screwed! No matter how great we are up front, defence is the foundation of being success, and a good GK not only saves shots but also provides tremendous confidence to the defenders.

Now, Cech aside, we have Hilario who is on his retiring process; Turnbull who has slower reaction than my granny; Blackman who is still very young and inexperienced; and the last but not least Courtois who is on loan who shouldn't be brought back to jeopardise his developments. So here we go, are you guys confident to have Hilario, Turnbull and Blackman to be our backup GK if Cech is unavailable?! I know I am certainly NOT!

Now please discuss, do we need one? Who are the available candidates?

a very valid point. we do need a good 2nd keeper and some1 on loan might be better as thibaut coutois will be our 2nd keeper from next season anyways but keeping hilario and turnbull is simply useless. specially hilario as he eats up that foreign player spot too.

Craig Gordon is a free agent but has very bad injury problems. If he could stay fit he'd be an amazing back up, hes underrated as a keeper. In the SPL years ago he was miles ahead of every goalkeeper and he got better at Sunderland. He'd be a great signing if kept fit but still he wouldn't play that much likely.

Hilario is fine to come in for a few games, as he shown in his MOTM performance against Liverpool in 2009 and when he came in against Barca in 2006 then only conceded 1 in 4 in his first games for us.

Hilario's problem however is consistency, he was first choice for a few months in 2006 but after the first few games he started to make mistake's and concede goals regularly.

If Cech is only injured for a few games then Hilario is fine but is Petr gets a long term injury then we should seriously consider a recall for Thiabut.

I think Hilario is pretty underrated.

his shot stoppin is alright i guess but his decisions to chase every corner is maddening. add to that the fact that we can get someone better and someone British to sit on the bench - Stockdale, Gordon(although Scottish) or a keeper from the championship like loach or lewis. maybe someone on loan as well. can't risk it at the highest level

cant risk it again.. turnbull may have saved a ronaldinho free-kick in 2006 but its 6 yrs on now and we need a back-up at the level of Cudicini atleast.

Cudicini was the best imo. loved the club and just sat on the bench. won't get anyone like him but any average keeper is better than hilariobull imo
