Extremely surprised by the praise he is getting for today. I thought he terrible defensively in the pivot. His positioning was poor at times and his covering when Ash and Rami went forward was minimal. He also committed himself to tackles and went to ground way too often leaving Rami to mark two men and the defense on the back foot. You could literally see the change in tempo and amount of possession before and after he came on.

Wow that's kinda harsh. Thought he was good in possession. Offered that extra man in attack.

Defensively he showed a lot of energy. I agree that at times there was a lot of space in the midfield but i think that was more to do with not having a DM on the pitch. Rami and Oscar are both very aggressive when defending. So i don't think it's fair to only blame Oscar for it. I think Oscar playing alongside a DM could work very well.

Yap I thought he was quite poor defensively, he is just not suited to play double pivot in epl.

I was judging him by the requirements of playing in the pivot. If he wants to play in the pivot he will have to pick his runs because giving us that extra man in attack is also at the same time giving the opposition an extra man in attack if we loose the ball because we will be defending without an integral part of our defensive system. Also when your playing this deep, you can't afford to be this aggressive defensively because you will be giving players a better chance of getting past you. In the pivot defending is all about containing the other team and covering the channels, not winning possession back. In fact I think Ramires is also too aggressive to play in the pivot but we currently don't have anyone better to play there.

Maybe Oscar can play in the pivot in the future, he just didn't show it today imo.

Well i agree that Oscar needs to improve on his positioning but that's basically down to experience on that position and the right coaching.

The thing is i think our requirements for the double pivot are different because we're trying to play a different kind of football.

Imo 1 of the double pivot needs to be a creative player who can pass the ball quick, accurate and move forward.

I don't agree with Oscar having to pick his runs. Personally for me the fifth man is necesarry to play possession football and should always move forward. 1 holding midfielder shielding the back four is more then enough when we're in possession.

I thought he did well in the circumstances. Most successful tackles of any player on the pitch despite coming on as sub. Distributed the ball well and dictated the tempo in the first half. Sunderland came back into the game in the 2nd half, and although we struggled to control the game from then on I thought he did a decent job.

Highest pass completion, most successful tackles. It was a decent game for him in midfield. Definitely encouraged that he can play there, hope he's moulded into that role properly as his passing would be an asset in that deeper position along with his pressing and general energy

Brazils #10 , why change him, we ( mostly the English) seem to think he needs to change his game when in truth it is not neccessary. Our front four should be hazard, oscar, mata, and preferably Falcao. People need to look at players such as Moses (an ok player) and see that he is not CHELSEA quality. This is the reason that the English league is at an alltime low in the CHAMPIONS league. Ask yourself, would Moses get into any other top European side? if not, why should he get into a chelsea first eleven instead of oscar.

It's called rotation...

And add to that he is currently in on merit through a string of effective performances.

It was always going to happen that Oscar and Hazard would suffer dips in form and inconsistency , given their age/experience and first season in England.

Oscar will become a great player over future years at Chelsea i've no doubts about that.

I'm a big fan of Oscar but I don't see how you can deny that Moses is a quality player. He has a great attitude and brings something else to the table for us, which makes us less predictable and harder to defend against. Plus, Moses is getting better and better with each start.

Oscar needs time to adjust to defending teams, that is why he is so good vs Arsenal, Shak and Juve and hasnt been exceptional in EPL. He needs a stronger and quicker body, he is not fully integrated with our squad (language, different league, etc) and he must play at a balanced midfield. He will improve and I have no doubt he will be one of our best players.

Mark my words, Oscar will be a monster in CWC!

Thought he was not very good but hard to judge with no real DM next to him and it being his first real game there. I'd like to see more of him there for sure and in time, I think he has the skills needed for the position.

This. Wasn't impressive, but I'd like to see him next to MIkel.
