Hatem Ben Arfa

We all know that Chelsea are in desperate need of some creativity and require a winger,so I think Ben Arfa can be a really good addition to the team.He has scored some exceptional goals for Newcastle and provided some great assists as well. He's 25 years old an IMO would form a formidable partnership with Mata and plus he may be a cheaper alternative than Lavezzi or Hulk.Chelsea should start showing some serious interest in him and make him a top priority in the summer.

Your thoughts?

What is it with people that whenever a somewhat talented player or a good player scored a good goal against another team, they all go "Let's sign him up!"?!!

IMO, he's similar to Sturridge. Always looking to cut onto his left foot and is selfish. Adding to that, he's inconsistent, always blowing hot and cold. So, for me, it's a NO-NO!

I am not basing my judgements based solely on the goal he scored today. He has been quite consistent and has done well.I think the only explanation for the 'selfish' style would be ambition and desire to pay at a top club like Chelsea.

Still not convinced. Needs to do it over a period of time. Can't make the same mistake again of buying a player just because of one or half good season or tournament with a team.

Fair enough but he may be a gamble worth taking.

Well I'm a big fan, he wouldn't be a bad acquisition. But our priorities should entail the quality of Lucas and Hazard first and foremost. That's not to say he's a bad player though, Newcastle have a few outstanding players - Cabaye, Santon, Ba, Ben Arfa, Cisse - (which aren't Charlie Adam level by any means.) A few years back Santon was tooted to become one of the great defenders. If we get him I wouldn't complain at all. And @BluesMaster he's was plagued with injuries prior to this season. He's always been rated as one of the best talents but has also been rated as having a lack of discpline too. He's a risk, and I wouldn't mind it if we take off.

Being rated as one of the best talents is one thing but to be able fulfill it is another and he hasn't. Still inconsistent and needs to perform well over a period of time. And as I said, he's similar to Sturridge and not what we really need right now. We desperately need a proper winger!

Agreed, I said we should be vying the likes of Hazard, Lucas, Hulk as our wingers first and foremost, but also agreed that this guy isn't a bad punt. Buying Ben Arfa on top of a player like Hazard or Lucas is how it should be done, not as an full time replacement. But anyways this is baseless - I think we were linked with him under Scolari once - and even that was unfounded, so it doesn't really matter anyway.

He definitely has the potential and has shown glimpses of a world class player (That goal against BlackBurn is worthy only of Maradona!). But like BluesMaster said, he is way too inconsistent, maybe in a couple of years if he proves himself more.

When I see Ben Arfa playing, I think about Mata and I say to myself... Damn, our number 10 is reallly putting his socks off to defend on his wings.

Very similar to Jeremy Menez, both are able to show incredible pieces of talent but they are inconsistent on a run of games and in a game. If there's a reason why Ben Arfa doesn't play very often is that he defends nothing. I have mates who went to St James Park recently and said to me the left back (Taylor, Jonas or Santon) is constantly asking him to help to defend.

Anyway there are better options elsewhere. Everything is made for him since he's 13 and it will be a dozen years he does nothing except behaving like a kid and showing rare piece of talent. The mediatic context in France was difficult (every young player is over mediated and compared to Zidane & co) and he went to England to escape from this pressure.

In my opinion we should look to a player who really wants to show his worth rather than a Hazard, Neymar, Ben Arfa kind of player who are maybe talented but so overrated and with everything done for them in their team.

I remember when Kenywn Jones played good against us last season when we drew 1-1, and people wanted to sign him up..............................

Due to his attitude he'll never be better than average. Chelsea needs players who aim for trophies and who have the desire to win every game. Ben Arfa is definitively not such a player, so forget about him and concentrate rather on other options.

If we come knocking on Newcastle's door it's Cabaye we should go for, a far more cost effective purchase instead of Modric in the middle of the park.

There are better options on the wing IMO, Junior Hoilett for one.

Yes, I agree on Cabaye who looks like Modric in his passing and tackling ability but Cabaye seems to have the decisive factor more than Modric.

Hoilett is really a great player, a bit inconsistent but when he is at the top of his form he's just unbeatable. Quick with and without the ball, versatile and with incredible through balls and crosses. He can shoot with his two great feet as well
