I have to hold my hands up and take back what I said about Eden mid game yesterday. I was fuming that he didn't seem to press in the first half. I thought he was disinterested but now I do believe it was either Sarris instruction or his own idea to preserve his energy. Second half onwards he was electrifying. Top man.

From my perspective it looked like Hazard was tasked with the job of marking Fernandinho, thought he did a good job. I look at the amount of touch and pass the Brazilian complied on this day it was considerably less than he regularly enjoyed.

wrong

I am not exactly sure what conclusion he is attempting to draw. KDB could have a shit game or not even play like he has for roughly most of the season and City would still be fine. In fact KDB has started in 5 PL games this season, and 2 of them were losses. He has been involved in 3 of out of 4 City league losses. Their record is astonishingly better without him.

Belgium played two top teams in the World Cup: beat Brazil when kdb was motm

then lost to france when hazard was Belgium better player.

In my opinion kdb is the more influential player... heh not really that controversial outside of these forums.

You forgot to add that Hazard was great in both games, while De Bruyne played realy average against France.

Hence why they lost... my point is that when kdb has a good game, his team is more likely to benefit from it than when hazard has a good game. It’s just, again imo, that kdb is able to influence the game more directly in his style of play.

Pure dribblers can be contained by isolating them to areas of the pitch. They will still beat players routinely, esp competent ones like Eden, but their influence will be greatly diminished.

Fair enough. Kdb is more direct indeed and if he makes great passes, its likely his team will score from one, while Eden dribbles dont always result in goals.

That said Hazard has been way more consistent for Belgium the last 3 years. Kdb had couple great games that helped Belgium win, but Hazard is performing well for them on regular basis. Kdb has fewer great performances, but when he does his team likely wins. Hazard is usualy best player in team.

Overall, due to Hazard consistency he helps his team win more times, albeit at worse percentage (motm/win) ratio. Still thats the only thing that matters because he delivers on regular basis.

So you are saying that KDB only plays good when his team is winning? [emoji51] Honestly, I don't perceive a difference in how much both players influence their teams performance. Both KDB and Hazard are capable of winning the match for their team, it's what makes them special. Both KDB and Hazard have a tendency to fade away in some games (like any normal player would), it's what proves they are human. Only real differences are their style of play and of course the fact that KDB plays in a team with more quality on the pitch.  Verstuurd vanaf mijn ANE-LX1 met Tapatalk

Nobody talking about his shit game yesterday? [emoji848]

Why? He clearly was tired from the effort on Sunday. And yes he had a moderately shitty game... hence his substitution. Nough said me thinks, on to the next one.

While I agree they are both great players, they are very different in terms of characteristics.

My take around the notorious eden inconsistency is that it is partly due to his style of play (reliance on dribbling) and physique. KDB is physically stronger for exemple.

A passer often can still do well even when not 100%, while a pacey dribbler will struggle more.

like I wrote before, it’s a bit easier to contain dribblers esp in tough games where spaces are already scarce enough. It’s more difficult to contain a player who can produce a killer pass from multiple midfield positions or score from afar.

my stance is the same with other players and leagues and not necessarily about these two: it’s a matter of characteristics.
