Well, due to the draw between Antwerp and Union and the win from Genk on Bruges we get three teams that can win the league on the final day in Belgian pro league next week.

Genk plays Antwerp at home

Union plays Bruges at home

 

Antwerp is champion if they win

Antwerp is champion if they draw and Union don’t win

Union is champion if they win and Antwerp don’t win against Genk.

Genk is champion if they win and Union don’t win against Bruges

To bring excitement I guess, and some of the years since introducing the play offs it worked. Finishing the season with 6 (next year again 10) top games is also good revenue for the clubs with the stadium as good as full.

Can you call it fair for the team leading the championship after 30 regular league games, I guess not. Especially not cause the points are cut in half before start of play offs. But that’s why they give them allready a Europa league ticket.

Antwerp versus Beerschot is a nasty city derby

similar to Chels v MIllwall, but lately they have played each other a few times recently, whilst we have not played Millwall in almost 30 years (last time was 08 Feb 1995, in a FA Cup tie)

Speaking to the paper about the incident, one Standard fan described what he saw happen: ‘At first we thought: this can’t be true. We thought it was a lighter or some other small object. But we really didn’t expect rats in a football stadium. There are many children and people in wheelchairs in that stand . It is the stand closest to the away supporters’.

When asked the describe those responsible, the fan made it clear that they had gone some ways to disguise their identity. ‘They wore white suits and called themselves ‘the pest controllers’. They all wore balaclavas, so you couldn’t see their faces’ said the Standard fan.
