Steve McClaren on Bamford after Derby beat Charlton earlier today..

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11684/9239426

McClaren knows how important Bamford has been since his arrival on loan in January and he said: "He came as a striker, that's where he wanted to play but we have kind of played him as one of the three strikers on the right hand side and given him the licence to roam and get in the box and score goals.

"But what has impressed me is his actual work rate, his discipline and the work he does for the teams. It's like we always say to him, his feedback is about if he was at Chelsea, not here, so we demand a lot from him and at the moment, he's delivering.

I don't know about you, but every time I watch this guy playing, or watch highlights of his game, it reminds me of a young Van Persie in his early days at Arsenal (2005/06).

Left-footed player, same poacher's instincts and the most common thing about these two is the style of their running. I don't know how to describe it, but the way Bamford runs and holds his hands just makes me think of RvP.

Way to go until he hits the jackpot like RVP did, but I wouldn't mind Bamford developing into the same type of player.

I hope he's not like RVP in his development. He didn't "hit the jackpot" until he was 28!

That was due to injuries though, his goal to game ratio all those years were actually very impressive. the main difference between that persie and this one is major luck with injuries.

I think last year's RVP is completely different to the one five-six years ago even in style. I remember when he was young he relied on his pace and incredibly powerful left foot. But he was wasteful. Of course he had a pretty good goal to min ratio because he was always Arsenal's second striker and would often come on against smaller teams when the game is already done just like Ba has by far the best min per goal ratio in our team now.

But the RVP from 3 seasons ago till now is one who's had to change his approach because he lost a lot of his pace and even some of the power of his shots. Now he relies on smart movement in and around the box and the fact that he's been the best finisher in the league. Bamford is much more like this kind of RVP than the earlier one, imo.
