John Terry: Racist slur?

Black people have been the subjugated race for centuries, and the general ruling if I remember from my studying law days is that the ethnicity that is largest can not be a victim of racism. eg calling someone a white bastard would not be considered racist. This may have changed now however as hate crimes encompass all ethnicities.

Where is the line drawed on that though? is it racist if for example I was living in india/africa and I was called a white cunt? as in their country I would be in the minority, or is it minority on a worldwide scale? or can it go down to communitys? another example if I was in southall, and I was called a white cunt by a group of asian youths would that not be racist? as in that area of our country I would be in a minority to another race/creed.

With racism surely its a level playing field or why bother? its stupid to say only certain races can be affected by racism, the minoritys amongst the majority seemingly have a kind of victim mentality, its almost like a subconscious instinct if you like you feel like your being discriminated against because your different to the masses, and its not just in a traditional sense (black minority within a white majority) it works the otherway too, I feel the same way in my head when I do work in a prominently black/asian area as id imagine the opposites would in the opposite situation, racism is basically self-perpetuating due to peoples pre concivied notions that the other race doesnt like you.

Ok. I was wrong to say it doesn't happen ANYMORE.

But I haven't come across a case for a while where a deserving black player is not selected cus of his color by his white coach who instead selects a less deserving white player.

In India it happens too when it comes to caste.

Is this racist?

I know I would be escorted out and probably end up with a black eye and a broken jaw thanks to Mike 'I'm a rapist' Tyson.

But it's all right to call Gareth Bale a monkey or a Chimp. Isn't it? How about I call Anton a Chimp? I would be crucified and tagged a racist.

Why the bias towards one race in this day and age when we all consider ourselves equal to each other?

Would you be offended if you were called a Caucasian cunt? Or a white cunt?

I haven't met a single white guy who would say yeah I would e and I would call the black guy racist. As they say I'd LMFAO

Black people make too much of an issue of the color. FFS stop playing victims. If a brown or white man doesn't mind being called a brown or white cunt why should a black man mind?

If you have been discriminated based on color then I'd say it's an issue and people responsible should be punished. But that doesn't happen anymore. So what's the big fuss even if JT called Anton a black cunt

The reason why there is a contradiction is because Anton Ferdinand and many modern day blacks are actually the direct descendants of a slave. There is a certain history attached to verbally attacking Anton's skin color as opposed to Gareth Bale. History determines how we view things in every aspect, your looking at things in a very simple way.

Like I said, in this day and age we are all equal. What happened in the past shouldnt dictate what happens in the present because it only creates differences. If Anton hadnt been playing victim, he wouldnt have been subject to those racist chants by Chelsea fans and racist remarks and death threats on twitter.

You're seriously skirting the line of blaming a potential victim of racist abuse and death threats. Seriously.

I'm not going to get into a debate about what racism is. There is information you can research that would do a far more adequate job that I could do on a football board. But simply telling a black person to essentially "get over it" doesn't make racism go away. I understand that sometimes there are some situations do seem trivial but telling back people to not act like victims doesn't mean racism will go away. Educate yourself and learn about context. I'm sorry but you know what, history does matter. Society doesn't exist in a vacuum.

True, but unfortunately that's not how large sections of society see it...

I think he was referring to the likes of preferential treatment and classification of people into different groups based on race...

History has taught us that's a bad thing and shouldn't have any place today...Its true the oppressed groups deserve special care from the rest of society to atone for what they've suffered in the past, but even that has to stop at some point, right?...

I'm not even asking for special treatment. But as a functioning adult in a multi-cultural society like England or the US, you may want to understand why calling a black person a monkey is insensitive at best and potentially an explosive situation at worst. Understand that and act accordingly. Yes, it makes life a little harder, a little bit more of a hassle, but that's life and with a little effort, we can handle it.

OK. Is it racist in India and Africa for you to be called a white cunt ? Well that would come under the laws and jurisdiction of those partcular territories. Each country has their own laws including England. You need to do some research.

The Southall one is interesting and has changed. In the 70s and 80s it would not have been considered racist -now all ethnicities can be victims of racism and hate crimes due to English society being multi-cultural.

Where I work it is like a microcosm of the UK and the organisation tries to gloss over the racism that is smouldering. Not only white over black, but by far the biggest problem is Indian racism against black and Afro-Carribean. Amongst that you have Hindus giving disfavourable treatment to Muslims. Indigenous whites resenting Poles. Africans hating Afro-Carribeans. Its a fucking nightmare trying to sort it out.

Nice romantic view that we are all equal. Funny how the majority of the millions killed by US foreign policy since WW2 are black or brown though.

There were no explicit racist chants by Chelsea fans

Anton has not been playing victim, he simply has not said anything and he is within his right to do that in the event of an investigation. If you make a negative comment about someones skin colour then you have to expect a negative reaction because of all the history and in many cases the present too. Chelsea fans have not been found to have made racist chants so i would be careful if i was you. The racist remarks on Twitter could be anyone, i could make an account today and start throwing racist abuse at Anton, i just think its opposition fans who are trying to stir things up.
