Didn't watch the match but Goal.com gave Cahill a 5.5 rating. Is he being overhyped on here or are Goal.com just stupid?

Goal.com being stupid, do you even need to ask?

His debut was better than I expected, he defended very well and looked comfortable on the ball. And that shot....

His post-match interview:

Thought he did well last night in debut. Did what needs to be done defensively and made some vital interceptions throughout the game. Would have been great if his that spectacular shot entered net and for one moment, I actually thought it was going in! Hopefully, we'll get to see more of him this season and become better for us!

No surprises coming from goal.com there. He was solid, did nothing wrong and could have won us the game. That 5.5 rating probably come from that Welbeck non-penalty incident in that 1st half in which the media have brainwashed the entire nation to believe it should have been penalty for United then.

Villas-Boas - No Cahill rift

http://www1.skysport.../11095/7528498/

The Chelsea boss has rejected the claims and confirmed that illness had prevented Cahill from being able to retain his spot in the starting line-up against the Toffees.

"He was ill - Gary was ill all of last week," said Villas-Boas in the Fulhamspacer.gif & Hammersmith Chronicle. "That's why we didn't decide to put him onto Everton.

"He only trained once: that's why he didn't have that continuity that he expected for the game against Everton.

"Nothing else, because his performance was excellent against United."

So that's why he started with Bosingwa as RB and Ivan as CB.

Sorry AVB for jumping on you saying you where crazy for benching Cahill.

And pleased to see that he also noticed Cahill was great against United.

Hopefully in the coming important games there is no Bosingwa. With Birmingham i could care less, but against Napoli def Bosingwa must not start unless he plays in A. Cole position.

Good news, we should expect him to start tomorrow, if that's the case, with Iva at RB.

one of my best mates is a Birmingham fan so this is a bigger game for me tommorow than it would have been else.

He has hated Cahill ever since he scored that overhead kick against Brum for Villa and ive joked that he will be doing it again tommorow

So instead of hearing it now, it shoulda said before the game that Cahill is a doubt through illness to stop any vicious rumours surfacing.

Agree but perhaps no one asked him back then till recently.

Thought he did well again yesterday. Would certainly like to see him starting more than Bosingwa does!

We knew it would be a difficult night, so when we went 1-0 up we should have shut the door but to concede two goals quickly was disappointing,' said the central defender.

'They are fantastic players and they caused us problems but it wasn't through loads of creativity, it was with the long ball, and today for some reason we found that difficult.

'Collectively we take the responsibility, it was a number of things and not dealing with the route one ball is basic football.'

Cahill, 26, acknowledges he has joined the club at a difficult time but also believes the tie can be turned around at Stamford Bridge in three weeks.

'It was a disappointing night all round and even though it was my Champions League debut it was disappointing. It's not one I will remember fondly,' he conceded.

'It's a sticky situation at the minute, and I've come in probably at the thick of it. But as soon as we get results we'll turn the corner.

'To score two goals at Stamford Bridge is by no means beyond the realms of possibility and that's what we have to hold on to, and the job we have to do.'
