I am still in shock and sadness after hearing about this news last night. I do not know what to say... I have been in that situation myself and decided to fight on but that doesn't take away the fact that i thought about it... Besides my close friends and family no one knew of my depression because i would hide it and i guess that is what Gary was doing. I feel for his family and friends but lets hope he is in a better place now.

Rest in peace Gary!

I am glad that you did that Steve. Its about overcoming that insane moment of madness. Fight for another day is what you gotta tell yourself.

AVB:

'Today was a sad day for football. One of the Premier League's recent stars has passed away, and for sure, one of the brightest young football managers. In a short spell in Gary Speed's career as a manager he has stood out and showed the same human values that had frequently been highlighted throughout his professional career as a footballer. I never had the opportunity to meet him personally, but I was fortunate enough to see that brilliant left foot in action many times.

'In my name and the club's, I would like to pass my sincere condolences to his family and friends, Gary will be truly missed.'

Awful -but cant help something else will come out later.

Even in the depths of depression you think he'd consider the implications of his wife or child finding there father/husbands corpse hanging there, and the indelible scars left.

Agree entirely....surely he could have gone out of the house to do it??. I also believe that something will come out, the inquest starts tomorrow....

Personally, i think he was hit with some sort of bombshell news and made up his mind. I don't buy into the depression thing in this case. I have seen many people with severe depression and suffer breakdowns. The first thing you notice is thier lack of health and dramatic weight loss(they usually look very worried). Speed looked a picture of health and i can't believe a suicidal man could have put on that display on football focus...

I also don't think he was a coward, no matter what your mindest, it takes a brave person to hang themselves from a low height(he was found in the garage). He must have suffered before he died, can't see that drop killing him instantly....a coward would have OD on pills and booze...

Like I mentioned In my earlier post. My one time best friends twin brothers were never the same after seeing their father hanging by the ceiling. Their mom was never the same. They just ostracized themselves. It's a scar. I was too young to understand the sudden change in their behavior cus we were just 10-11 yr olds. If the thought of leaving your 10 yr olds with mental scarS for the rest of their lives doesn't stop u from taking your life then u don't deserve my sympathy.

And like the guy above said. Depression is not always the cause of suicide. I know a girl who took her life after her bf dumped her after making several promises. Her mom refused to go out of the house for the next 20 years.

All seemingly fine -until...something about to come out ? Blackmail, about some dark secret ? -its all speculation, and maybe, things will be permanently covered up. It does point to though, some kind of affair that was about to be revealed -(rather than as you say -a creeping dehiblitating depression, that you just cant hide the symptoms)

.just guessing like. Poor bloke

Insensitive is calling others insensitive without knowing what they have been through.

Well I apologise if i offended you in any way, I just don't think this thread should be turned into another one of those debates. Also I don't think we shouldn't speculate about Gary Speed's personal life in anyway until we know the facts.

His wife found his body, they had not argued nor was he depressed which makes the drastic decision of him to take his own life even more baffling. There has to be something much more behind this. I hope his wife & kids find out & they are not left wondering for the rest of their lives.

So sad to hear, I hope for the sake of his family they find some reason behind his death because they need closure. The rest of world doesn't but his wife and children do, they need a why and they need to know it wasn't them. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife and children, I hope they are able to find the healing and closure they will need in the coming months and most of all I hope the media will leave them alone.

Ok, i heard about this yesterday when i got home. I was stunned because you would not associate something like this with him, it's completely messed up. I felt really upset. He was on Football focus just the day before, watching that on youtube feels really surreal.

I'm with warnie on this tho, i don't wanna start any arguments or any debates but suicide is the most despicable cowardly thing you can do when you have a wife and children. How dare he do this to them, he's ruined the family and their lives forever now, no fucking excuses for suicide. No matter how bad things get, suicide is NEVER the right thing to do. It's a tough world, we are here to deal with every joy and every pressure.

I always had great respect for Gary Speed but now i don't know what to think. I can't believe that he really did this to himself and his fans, friends and family. I've never been so shocked at a piece of news ever in my life. Tragic and very, very strange.

Apparently, Duncan Ferguson had an affair with his wife for 13 years and is the father of one of their kids :o :o

is this pretty much confirmed or just a rumour?

E: I'm reading that it's a random twitter rumour, far from being confirmed
