Rubber bullets 1,183
For anyone who is currently at univeristy, thinking about going to university or once was a studet at a universiy. For me my course starts in October with fresher's week beginning on October 2nd. I got two Bs and one C in my A-Levels and got accepted at the University of Essex to study History. Which is located in Colchester and is basically surrounded by fields of green and nothing else. Can't wait. The only problem is that my mother insisted that I did not pick the cheapest accomadation at the campus. Now she is regretting it becuase it takes a lot of my maintenance loan. I've calculated and for the first term (12 weeks) I have £212 spare cash. So no heavy drinking.

Kostas 1,468
I'm curious, what are the criteria people in the UK use to pick their Universities? Reputation, price or something like success in the field you're interested?

Obviously it depends on what grades the universities require of you, with the higher establishments demanding better results.
DavidEU 2,023
Me, I'm applying next year. Nottingham/Aston first choice for Business Management I finished my BM degree last year. Aston will be a great choice. It's where I wanted to go, but I fucked about at school far too much.@sam, your Mum's probably right, you don't want to be in a dive. Trust me. In terms of money, no one has any anyway, so you'll just be in the same boat. Get a sensible overdraft limit off your bank though and you'll be fine.Good luck to everyone though, its great. ChelseaChick 430
I hate college. But I soldier on through it because it will be worth it in the end! When I'm finally a nurse please god, I'll have completed 7/8 years in college. I'm already qualified to work with kids who have special needs and now I'm doing Social Care and then after I'll be doing nursing. 27/28 when I finish college for good! I think I hate college because the one I go to is a kip and the social part of it is crap.

I've made quite a few mistakes in the last few years on a personal level in school. Wasted a lot of time, taken things lightly and tried to wing it. A reality check came to me last year and now I'm back on track.. Hopefully next year will prove that.

I had an operation three weeks ago, so I wanted to get that out of the way before I went into my 'career'. Job searching at the moment, but as you probably know its quite slim pickings. Just been doing temp jobs up till now so that my CV didn't have a huge gap in it. Business Management is good though, means you have alot of options coming out of uni.At A Levels, I got BCDE, where as to be honest, I could have got AACD had I put the work in. Hindsight and all that.

Some firms' starting salaries are more than a lawyer's starting! Unbelievable, but I'm sure between now and then I'll have changed my aim.But BM is something I'm quite interested in. Right now thinking just BA, but hopefully I'll find a firm to sponsor me in getting a MSc. Though that's more idealistic thinking than anything

Obviously it depends on what grades the universities require of you, with the higher establishments demanding better results.I can't say I'm familiar with the A Levels but around here people have the impression that aside from world known universities like Oxford, Cambridge and the med schools Greek universities are stricter about accepting students than most Unis in the UK. Would you think that's possible?

Randall 315
I'm just going into my third year of a Maths and Philosophy degree at University of Southampton and all I can say is university is probably the best time you'll ever have and there is A LOT of drinking and in the first year you will probably do bugger all work; from personal experience I can tell you NOT to do the same in your second year. I made a few friends for life and have some great memories. The final year was a bit stressful to say the least, trying to juggle module deadlines and a dissertation nearly killed me !If money wasn't an issue I would do a second undergraduate degree. Would you think that's possible?there has been a massive expansion in the number of universities and degree courses. Naturally itis easier to get on some course, Often people fail to realise that there are excellent Universities outsideOxbridge and also Universities with excellent faculties in specialised subjects.Southampton has been mentioned .not the best known but with an excellent Mathematics Dept. The issue most annoying to me at present is that European students won't pay fees at Scottish Universitieswhile English students will. Incidentally the Scottish Universities are excellent

It does mean I have an extra module in the second semester though I suppose.

Bearing in mind that getting a job is not guaranteed and who knows how much money my parents will be able to provide me.
