Kez 2,727
Meireles - 97 touches, 80 passes, 90% completion, 7 long balls, 2 through balls, 4 key passes, 4 interceptionsVery impressed with him today, if he carries on playing the way he did, we have got a very very good signing. Guest justin_3d
Panic buy my arse. He's quality!I don't think many people said he was a panic buy, but a good buy.Torres was a panic buy!Still most are disappointing we did not get a creative force like Modric. We'd of been ripped off & paid over the odds for modric another player that would have the pressure of a huge price tag over his head. I'm happy with the signing of meireles & I think he's gonna have a great season. Could be a key player for us this season.

nadavTKL 1,787
He was great yesterday, but he needs to play in a more advanced role. I hope he played as a DM just because Mikel couldntplay(is he?). It's realy good to see he can play as a DM and can do it well, but we can use he's creativity and pace upfront. Ollie 4,400
Didn't modric only get 2 assists and one goal last season? Meireles already has one assist for us and judging by the higfhlights, he looked so comfortable like he'd been a blue for 3 years. We have bought a quality player who can pass and shoot and has lots of energy. It wasn't a panic buy, AVB eyed him for a bit before deadline day, my dad told me like a week before that we're lined up to get him and the deal was actually done earlier than has been reported. Madmax 9,219
Quite excellent he was, I thought. He has that rare quality in him of knowing exactly what he wants to do with the ball even before he receives it.

Superblue 6,372
I watched him a few times for Liverpool last season and he was by far their most creative and skillful player. When we signed him I commented that he would be an excellent signing and much preferred over being held to ransom on Modric.I think the general consensus was we didn't get 'the big one' and Meireles wasn't seen as a creative player, but I fully expect him to quash this perception very quickly.I agree that he could do damage further up the field but AVB pulled a masterstroke playing him in the deeper role. It's clear the ball gets stuck in our midfield far too much and for too long, and he is someone who likes to play forward and release the ball quickly. We already have the players up top, and on Saturday especially Mata and Sturridge who can hurt teams but the ball needs to be fed to them quickly. I would not have expected Mikel or Lamps on current form to play that pass for Sturridge's goal.Meireles, Mata and Sturridge give our team a whole new dimension, and when David Luiz is also up and running I think we'll soon hit our stride.
