The history of sport is a fascinating subject. Despite being a Mathematician and Scientist ,I am a lover and amateur student of History in general

and Sports history in particular . While football has been played in various forms for centuries world wide ..it was England who formulasied the

laws of the game , The organisation of the League was formed largely by northern and midland clubs. Much that BL has said about

the stronger community ties in the North is in my opinion true.

Witness Rugby League ..a breakaway formed to introduce professionalism. I can recall entire towns making the trip to Wembley to see a

cup final. In an earlier thread I described the growth of football in this country under the title "You DirtyNorthern Bastards"

There is a North v South rivalry ..which is I believe healthy , The flaw is the standard of journalism and reporting of football.

This is far lower than in most other sports . Similarly listening to pundits discussing Rugby , Cricket or Golf ..makes one realise

how poorly the football fan is informed by the "experts"

I totally agree, and you of course raise an excellent point that links in with what I was saying in regards to the origins of the popularity of sport in this country.

I was watching today's game on some stream and there was chat near video...bloody hell! The amount of Chelsea hate that was there was incredible! Even when Drogba got injured half of them were saying that he's dead and the other half that he's acting! Can't believe how many idiots are there...

Ive got mates who support all the top 6 teams and they often join forces and resort to biggin up each other's teams against me, biggest compliment i can ever get, one Liverpool fan even said (just to get one up on Chelsea) "what can you say about Man u when your a Chelsea fan? they are the most succesfull team in England" yes a LIVERPOOL FAN SAID THAT TO ME

"You Ain't Got No History" has been the song of the vanquished in the PL for some time now. I've heard and seen many people opine that we have bought our success by plucking players from other squads around Europe. This assertion is, of course, fraught with hypocrisy. In the PL era, most every club in the has had a squad stocked with outside buys.

We were a good club as far as level of competition prior to Roman. His infusion of cash and personal interest just took us to elite status.
