You started by saying that last season, mata was more important as it was oscar's first season in PL so he was adjusting. Then you moved on to sayinh its no longer an issue as we have brought in KDB, willian, schurrle. Isn't this their first season as well?

Oscar(2oyrs) from brazilian league was different now we have kdb(22yrs),willian(25yrs),schurrle(22yrs) all from very good european leagues. Every one can see how much oscar improved. To cut it very shot for you mata has a lot to contend with much more than last season and i am not talking oscar or hazard alone but four other players i mentioned earlier also.

Why is it that the focus here seem to be only on Mata? Even Hazard and Oscar has to contend with all these additional attacking options. Heck, even all 6 of Hazard, Mata, Oscar, Willian, Schurrle and De Bruyne have to fight for places with one another. Why all the assumption the others will do well and Mata will not and find himself out of favor? Why can't it be the other way round?!

Because mata has been our most vital player in past two seasons but i doubt it will be so this season. Neither oscar nor hazard has achieved that status.

Well if Mata (and the team) continue to perform like they did with Mata on, I guess he'll see the bench a lot of times this season.

People are making a capital mistake by giving Mata the credit for our last 30 minutes. Mata did absolutely NOTHING in the almost 60 minutes he played. Oscar amounted the same in the 30 minutes he played. The reason why we dropped after the subs was because Schürrle - not Mata - was subbed. Schürrle is the guy that was more involved in our attack - along with Eto'o. In 60 minutes Mata took part of one successful attack play in the middle of the first half. That was his contribution. Oscar was just the same.

Mata is very creative and he has the best vision in our team. That's about it though and if he doesn't deliver the creativity he's a liability because he's slow, small and can't defend for his life.

Some people would rather keep him in the team because you never know when he'll work his magic with a great pass or even scoring. In the 200 minutes he played for us it haven't happened while all other AM we have had produced many key-passes and a couple of assists and goals.

Also it's easy to blame Mourinho, but it wasn't Mourinho who tired him out for 2 years, it wasn't Mourinho who caused his injury during the pre-season, it wasn't because of Mourinho he was completely unfit during the Aston Villa match and Mourinho has little or nothing to be blamed for his more than forgettable match against Everton. Mata isn't playing what he used to. He admitted this injury was the first in his whole career, so who knows if he needs time or if he's lacking confidence to move. The former seems more likely as the injury was too light for him to be insecure about his moves. He's our most creative player, we need him, but we need him playing in high level... otherwise we don't need him at all.

Is this post for real?

Before last season, did you also think that RVP could only be great and vital for a side competing for top 4, but not for a title winning side?

Yeah every loss was Mata's fault while all those trophies in the last two years were won despite him, is that what you wanted to apply here?

No one blames mata for any loss but the reality is that we are a lot stronger now even in mata's absence unlike last season where without mata you couldn't even watch a chelsea match because loosing seemed imminent. Using Rvp is not the same you have Rvp and rooney >>> hernandes and welbeck but in chelsea you have mata/hazard/oscar/willian/Kdb/schurrle/Eto'o pick your choice now.

Blah blah blah

Liverpool are top of the table without Suraez and have other options, other strikers banging in goals for fun. Maybe Suraez also isn't necessary at Liverpool that they should sell him? I don't understand why people would focus on the team performing well with a great player's absence as opposed to thinking the team would be even better with him?

So you believe the gap in quality between suarez and the other liverpool attackers is the same with mata and the rest of chelsea attackers? Why compare a banned suarez to mata who is fit and can't secure his position. To answer your last question our team hasn't been improved by mata's presence this season he is simply not playing up to the required standard and when/if he does i'll be the first to tell you so.

The Mata+cash deal for Rooney would have been an absolute masterstroke, in time.. that would have gone down as one of the great controversial moves in world football. Moyes fooling himself into thinking he could accommodate that type of player, even with Kagawa's limited role proving otherwise. 2 square pegs, round holes.

I really hope he comes back to form soon as he is arguably our best finisher in attacking midfield.

there's no argument on that imo. He's our best AM finishing wise, period. Oscar is a close second (let's pretend that sitter against Bayern never happened) and all the others (Hazard, Willian, André) are way behind. André is the last one waving from the distance

In all honestly though Kevin isn't bad at all, so he's a third and deserves a mention. Mata 9.0; Oscar 8.8; Kevin 8.2. The others I won't rate :P

The focus is on Mata because he can only be effective in the central attacking midfielder role.

Hazard will start majority of the games because he's our best LW/AML player and Oscar's ability to drop deep and play as a third CM will strengthen his chances of playing regularly.

It would have solved chelsea and manutds problems in one sweep. Manutd are not creating anything this season and chelsea are misfiring in goal. It would have bettered both teams.

But my love for mata can't imagine him behind vanpersie, I would have an instant stomach bug seeing him play for them.

Tomorrow is a perfect game for Mata to get back into the swing of things. He will definitely start and he needs to reproduce his magic because the pressure and focus, rightly or wrongly is on him right now.

I agree. At first I thought there wouldn't be any chance for him to start, but maybe Mourinho will save Oscar for EPL and use Mata tomorrow - saying something like this last year around November would sound the craziest and most nonsensical thing ever

It's the kind of match that could give Mata confidence. Maybe that's what he's lacking in addition to minutes - played consecutively. No matter how bad he continues to perform, for him to regain form he needs to play twice a week, week in and out, even if he comes as a sub, or is subbed in the second. He just needs the constant.
