If by attacking thrust, you mean holding the ball up (something he doesn't even do well most of the time, despite his physique etc) and pinning the defenders back, then sure.

i had the subjective feeling that we got into the their box more consistently with lukaku on compared to when we played without a traditional line but yeah, his lay offs are often inaccurate. Giroud was far better at this but then again Lukaku is a lot faster (if he does eventually run at least) and teams can't push their line high when lukaku plays.

As I said the player itself is shit but the way he plays does keep opposition defences occupied and deep. Similar to Werner. Everybody knows he will scuff every shot but you still can't just let him run freely on goal or play a high line and allow his runs behind.

Lukaku has more of a physical presence about him than Werner or even Havertz. So not surprised if we can get more into the box with him upfront but his deficiencies mean that we have other problems when he plays upfront. And not to mention, our play feels bloody predictable with him such as just spamming crosses into the box.

Teams generally sit deep against us anyway and we tend to dominate possession as well. So, not surprised if teams don't push up against us.

lukaku for felix ( maybe with compensation) who would do it?

Joao Felix has an even worse goalscoring record albeit understandable given he plays for an ultra defensive team

not a fan of him still

replace Lukaku with broja and sign better 1 vs 1 wingers to support

you are right, but i think it's wrong look only to stats, those are what has made us sign werner first and lukaku after, only good stats without looking skills and real player ability.
Felix isn't a striker, but he could make a good contribution for goals and assist in the right system and overall he is a really good skills like dribbling, play in the tight places and he is a good shooter.
lukaku for felix, obviusly than you have to sold someone else (pulisic,CHO, werner or who you want) and have to take a first striker and Broja would be one the first choice if not the first!

Better to gamble with Dybala for free than Felix for who knows how much would cost.

“He put himself under a certain pressure because coming back to the club where you start was difficult, and you come back because you want to prove a point,”  “But he’s winning and I think he’s going to make it.”

“I hope he learned from me,” “He’s a goalscorer. He’s having a difficult moment, but bouncing back and when we have the time to speak I give him some advice, but after that it’s his career, it’s his responsibilities now. It’s him now. He’s in charge of the attacking players, so he has to find the ideas and make it his own story.”

The Drogs

too much has been made out of their comparison. As player types they are different as night and day. Drogs was a very technical striker who could score from any distance, with either foot and was paritcularly dominant in the air and on big occasions. Rom is the complete opposite, has terrible technique and ball control, only shows up vs relegation fodder, hardly scores from outside the box and is average in the air.

Yeah think Drogba is just trying to give him some confidence, with the caveat that ''he's in charge, has to make his own ideas''

To be honest I'd have preferred the 43 year old Drogba there today

So Ian Wright, Shearer, and Lineker all said the same thing - its a training fault. They showed numerous videos of when Lukaku is not getting first time balls in, and the opportunity is lost.

I reckon this will be rectified in training now.

I was so hopeful when he looked like a super fit beast against the likes of Arsenal and Villa early in the season. He genuinely looked like a changed player from his previous PL stints. Highly mobile, the ball would stick when it went up to him, he was tossing CB’s around for fun (remember him humiliating Pablo Mari?) and he was scoring brilliant goals. He looked like an absolute menace like Drogba Version 2.0.

These days he looks like the Man United at the very end version of Lukaku. Overweight, barely moves, terrible body language, isn’t aggressive or dangerous at all. Opposing teams look happy to play against him.

Wtf happened to the early season Lukaku?

If Lukaku needs specific conditions to achieve even basic competence then he's a fundamentally shit footballer. Harry Kane fed on scraps today yet still managed to cause City absolute nightmares.

If we go back and watched Diego Costa's games for us they'll be many times he wasn't played in when we could have been, even by Cesc, but he still kept going and often got his reward.

Unfortunately we don't play defenders as shit as Pablo Mari every week.

The signs were there even against Villa, we created little and were kept in the game by Mendy (in no small part thanks to Villa utilising the holes created by Lukaku not pressing), that game Lukaku actually took his chances, but it was never sustainable as it has since proved.
