It doesn't matter what team reached Semis and what not, but if you look at the history of the Champions League, only 2 German clubs have won it, one being obviously Munich and the other is Dortmund 1997. That Schalke semi final doesn't mean much when they get thrashed in the semis 6-1 on agg. That 1-1 at the Bridge was a freak result. Just look at it this way, Wolfsburg are currently ranked 2nd in their league and Everton are ranked 9th in the English League. The team that are currently 9th beat a team that is 2nd in another league in both home & AWAY, what does that tell you about the quality of the German sides?
-
Yes I don't understand why the UEFA coefficient is so high for Germany. Like I said before, all German clubs have always been disappointing except Munich. Yes Dortmund had a freak season few years back when they reached finals, similar to Leverkusen's freak season in 2002. You watch Leverkusen & Dortmund will get thrashed once they hit second round, Dortmund have had a super easy group this season. Leverkusen lost yesterday to Monaco at HOME. Schalke can't even beat Maribor at home. Leverkusen lost 5-0 to the worst Man Utd team in decades at HOME, Schalke got beat 9-2 last year on agg.,Barca 7-1 Leverkusen, the list goes on. The quality gap in the German League is massive, that's the problem. This season, I expect Leverkusen to be thrashed 6-0 on agg if they finished 2nd in group. Schalke won't even finish in 3rd place. Dortmund will either crash out in R16 or Quarters at best.

Sorry to say, but all German teams are poor bar Bayern Munich when it comes down to European competitions. All German sides have been humiliated by English sides this week. Not to mention, in all those games except the Munich game, it wasn't even close. I don't understand why UEFA still allow 4 German sides in the Champions League. Schalke and Leverkusen are atrocious. Leverkusen got thumped 5-0 by the worst United team in decades at home.

Come on now LOL.....this City ain't winning the Champions league, they may make the Round of 16 only if they beat Roma while Moscow lose to Munich. There's no certainty that if City win next game, they'll be through. Right now, Munich have 0 motivation in the CL group stages and CSKA may very well snatch a win like they did at Etihad. If you think this City side, who beat a 10 men Bayern B side at home with all three goals being gifts, somehow have the capacity to win the whole CL, then you are the one needing to quit football, not me. Plus, City won't even have Fernandinho + Yaya against Roma. Let's just say City make it out of group, they'll get a top side and get thumped. Let them enjoy their glory for now, that glory will end either in 2 weeks time or in February.
-
Good shit, glad City won this actually, they needed some luck after all the misfortune they've been facing past few games. Just more midweek games for them, which is a huge thing really. The best thing will be Man City winning at Rome and then CSKA beating Munich, just all that hard work down the drain LOL.
-
Surprisingly, if you look at records, Bayern have always been better away than at playing home. I'm expecting a 2-0 win for them today.
-
Ok that makes sense now. City mustn't lose today and they'll be OK as long as they get points in Rome. For City to go through, CSKA loss in Munich, City draw/win today and City win in Rome if draw today. Though, City must rely on CSKA losing to Munich. Either way, City need at least 4 points between today's and Rome away game assuming CSKA lose to Bayern.
-
How will H2H be measured when 3 teams have equal points tho?
-
What's looked at first? Goal difference or Head to Head if all 3 teams have same points?
-
LOL CSKA! Who's going through this group now?
-
Clyne, the future of England NT.
-
Rodgers on LVG "He will find the EPL tough. To get top players you need CL football. United know that"
-
They're not even midtable worthy this year, more like relegation fodder.
-
That'd sound amazing but 3rd place is looking unlikely for them now. It's eithr CSKA/Roma in 2nd/3rd.
-
Saints this season remind me of Liverpool last season.

Now let's hope Villa do us a favor on Monday.

Well I was saying they're not built to be a football superpower like Germany, Italy, etc nor are they built to qualify for major tournaments, this is an irrefutable fact. Name me last time they even qualified for a single tournament? Yes they were important in history, that's just the Liverpool argument.
-
India don't give a fuck about football. China however do, but most of them are born to focus on the Olympics. The major reason why China lack the power in football is because firstly the infrastructure is horrid as you say and secondly, the corruption. Yes you are right about infrastructure but it is also about population, the bigger the population, the better the talent pool. Japan and Mexico are great teams in their respective confederations but they've been both awful in the World Cups. They're not football superpowers either like Germany, Italy, etc. Yes I agree USA will become a super power in football, if the sport catches on.
-
I'm not winding up anything, just speaking from what I believe. Scotland only have a population of 4-5 population, which is not enough for them to build a powerful team like England, Germany, Spain, etc. Is there anything wrong with saying this? Hell, it's hard to even make it to the world cup with this population. Don't get me wrong, Scotland are a very talented nation in sports, they've shown it in Rugby and Andy Murray sure as hell shown it but football just doesn't work for them, just like China, Mexico, Japan for various other reasons.
-
Scotland are simply not a football nation, they're not built for football. They suit Rugby & Tennis better.
-
Possibly. Heard some people were saying Russia not paying Capello is a tactic to get him to resign, as if you notice, Russian FA haven't paid Capello since he crashed out of the World Cup group stages.
-
When is Capello getting the sack?
