When ethics are concerned, this is my field. Sorry to bring this up but I used teach this at the local university.
You can condone people because of a number of reasons:
1. Deontological: did he break an a actual rule - moral or legal. Actually no, when you see the footage. Is there a deontological code broken in his action. No, there is no stipulation of this fact. Consider what Cantona would be liable for in this case ....
2. Consequentionalism: Is there damage done, in hindsight. No. There is nothing there.
3. Virtue ethics: is Hazard someone who promotes the wrong values, does he do stuff that make football look bad. The proof of the pudding is in the eating here: nobody seems to think so, even our opponents. The only value that is being promoted here is that it is actually ok to have ball boys have an effect on the game. Not to even mention the fact of the twitter account or the fact that the ball boysfather has a serious interest in Swansea's performance.
4. Utilitarian (think Jeremy Bentham): what kind of 'utlity ' or good did Hazard prevent from being the case. None. We lost, even with Hazards action.
Conclusion: all the debate is an emotional debate (Richard Hare if people wanna know/research). It is about what we feel, especially the FA. Not about the question at hand. I am seriously disgusted because of the intellectuall stupidity of what i going on...
Also and in addition: an argument that involves our 'pr' or our image is the worst. This is merely big brother level and deserves to be burned , nothing more.

I like how the media have changed their stance and are more widely using the term 'kicked the ball underneath the ball boy' as opposed to the original 'kicked the ball boy'.
This softening stance can only help our cause if we are to contest IMO.

nothing hazard can or could do can ""hurt"" the image of the club than it already has been. we are the ""rich, spoilt, bad boys"" for the english media and the footballing world in general.
swansea had probably trained their ball boys to do this because it wasn't just one but all of them, which is a bit of a disgrace and disrespect towards the game. Anybody would be frustrated. i remember a throw in for which mata had to run back about 10-15 metres to give the ball to azpi because thats where the ball boy had thrown the ball. if anythin it is swansea who should be getting the stick...
by the way what the hell was the ball boy doing in that position anyways... behind the goal and in front of the banners. i mean is not tht the goalies ball to retrieve. i remember cech being yellow carded against barca for being slow in retrieving the ball from behind the goal. but obviously no one would question that.
IMO, hazard does not deserve the stick he is getting for this. he might have "hit" the ball boy but it was merely a toe poke to get the ball from underneath the boy. there are so many flying tackles and shit in football but this is not one of them. i dont think hazard had any intention of hurting the kid which is the most important thing for me.

If this comes to court or being investigated, they will be looking at facts.
Hazard: football player at Chelsea who's job is to play football
Ball boy: help aside the pitch to make sure the ball can be put back into play as soon as possible
Fact: a ball boy (17 years old) is lying on a ball (????) for several seconds! => clearly is not fulfilling his job!!
Fact: a football player kicks a ball boy => this can be seen as an assault

This video shows Hazards clearly kicks the ball from underneath the kid, by doing this being able to continue his race for 2 goals.
IF the tweet of the ball boy is real... this will be seen as "premeditated" => with the video evidence this should hugely influence the case.
IF the tabloid circus successfully turn this in a scandal story, that will dominate newspapers for the next days (week?) ... and by doing this affecting this case as being seen as an assault or whatever.... that would clearly show the complete idiocy of the British Newspapers!!
Of course I will be biased because I'm Belgium... but this is all about facts! Fact is that he kicked a ball underneath a ball boy who is lying on the ball for several seconds (??? why???). Eden didn't high kick the boy in the face when he was trying his utmost to do his job! Solid performance and he was a focal point to the attack. The team worked around him and Stoke had to defend him, they couldn't ignore him like most teams do with Torres and have spare defenders.
Unfortunately he will be benched midweek to allow Torres to play the 'easier' game against Southampton. Benitez will make Demba do all the hard work against four 6'5 Stoke defenders and let Torres play at home against Southampton. Tough luck Demba.
